ResponsibilitiesBerkley Offshore Underwriters is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their finance team. This role is located in their New York City office on a hybrid schedule.
The Senior Accountant will be involved in all accounting and reporting functions as well as any financial projects. The incumbent will be integral to the Finance Department and will be responsible for the accurate processing and preparation of the monthly/quarterly financial data. This position will require satisfactory completion of daily, weekly, and monthly accounting tasks and activities, which include account reconciliations, intercompany transactions and settlements, and maintaining the general ledger.
Preparation of monthly/quarterly journal entriesDevelop, implement, and document efficiencies in accounting processesWork with the Accounting Manager in month/quarter end processes including preparation of account reconciliations and other closing analyses and reportsAssist in the completion of the Quarterly CFO packageEstablish and maintain effective working relationships with parent company and affiliate personnelAssist in the Annual Planning ProcessAssist in quarterly Schedule F submissionsAssist in the non-IT Sarbanes – Oxley ComplianceMonitor the implementation and maintenance of accounting control proceduresParticipate in audit processes, including audits conducted by external public accountants, state regulatory examiners and parent company auditorsHave an understanding of reinsurance contracts and accountingComplete Excess of Loss and Quota Share reinsurance calculationsComplete balance sheet and income statement reconciliationsKeep CFO and Accounting Manager apprised of any issues that may impact timely and accurate financial reportingReview monthly T&E reports for accurate account coding and adequate support documentationPerform other duties as assigned Qualifications Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or FinanceCPA a plusA minimum of 5 years of financial reporting or public accounting experience General knowledge and experience in various accounting areas, such as general accounting, internal management reporting, GL, AP and reconciliation a mustExperience with foreign currency a plusMust be detail-oriented and have strong organizational skillsMust have analytical skills, good judgment and problem-solving skillsMust have Strong customer focus (responsive to needs of others)Must be able to work effectively as part of a team and also on independent assignments, and to pursue tasks and objectives without the need for close supervisionDemonstrated ability to be proactive, complete assignments and meet deadlinesAbility to effectively communicate with all levels of management and staffAbility to effectively work in a fast-pace environment with competing demands on resources, time and prioritiesMust have advanced knowledge of Excel and intermediate knowledge of Word & AccessExperience with the following software applications a plus: PeopleSoft GL, Perceptive, Archer, Hyperion Essbase/Smart View, VenaExperience in SQL or other programming knowledge a plus Additional Company Details The Company is an equal employment opportunity employer.We do not accept any unsolicited resumes from external recruiting agencies or firms.

• Base Salary Range: $76,000-$134,000
• Eligible to participate in annual discretionary bonus
