Job Summary

This position will lead the Company’s regulatory financial reporting process and related filings with regulatory agencies for both UGI Utilities and UGI Energy Services.  This role will also be the primary liaison to work with our depreciation consultants on Plant Accounting studies and will have an integral role on the team that supports our base rate case filings. In addition, this person will also be the Company's subject matter expert for the software application which converts transactions from GAAP accounting and reporting to FERC accounting and reporting.

Duties and Responsibilities

Regulatory Accounting & Plant Accounting Monthly Close and Related Processes for UGI Utilities and UGI Energy Services Regulatory and Plant Accounting including the following:

Accountant responsible for variance analysis, financial statement reporting, journal entries, account reconciliations, and SOX controls related to Regulatory Accounting.  Lead the calculation of various overhead rates, ensuring that calculations are appropriate in accordance with regulatory guidelines. Lead Plant Accounting’s depreciation budgeting and forecasting for Financial Planning and Analysis’ Corporate reporting and Base Rate Cases.

 

Regulatory Accounting and Filings for UGI Utilities and UGI Energy Services as follows:

Responsible for preparation of the FERC Form 1, the PUC Annual Report, and other regulatory reports as assigned, working with operational and accounting personnel to ensure that information is reported accurately, timely and completely.   Subject matter expert on FERC filing software, serving as the primary point of contact with our vendor and individuals throughout the Company who use the software. Serve as subject matter expert for FERC ledger mapping, and the conversion of base financial information into FERC reporting. Prepare Regulatory and Plant Accounting schedules and analysis to support Base Rate Case filings.  In addition, prepare responses for questions received from Legal, Rates and intervenors.  

 

Environmental and Damages Claims for UGI Utilities including the following:

Lead meetings with Legal, Environmental, and Claims Department personnel to update information on these reserves at least quarterly.  Take full responsibility of accounting for environmental and damage claims.   Ensure schedules to support the Company’s reserves for all reporting are accurate and completed timely.   Process / System Improvement and Project Management Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to design, build, improve, automate reporting related to Regulatory and Plant Accounting in Workiva and other data analytics/reporting software. Lead special projects as assigned by management, primarily in the areas of Regulatory Accounting or Plant Accounting. Perform other duties as requested.  Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present to senior management. Comfort in proactively coordinating and communicating verbally and through email with various internal and external parties, including senior management and legal, related to areas of responsibility. Experience in a regulated accounting environment preferred. Understanding of accounting principles associated with plant accounting, including regulatory accounting principles. Ability to independently research and resolve issues, presenting potential solutions to management. Strong Excel skills Strong attention to detail skills. Experience with ERP system such as SAP preferred. Ability to identify and implement process improvements. Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field 5+ years experience in Accounting CPA or working toward CPA is a plus
