Position Overview: The Senior Accountant for a not-for-profit organization will assist the Controller in the day-to-day financial operations and accounting functions. This role ensures compliance with financial reporting standards, budgeting processes, internal controls, and other regulatory requirements while supporting the organization's mission. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, and assisting with audits, grants, and other financial analyses. Key Responsibilities: 1. Financial Reporting: + Prepare and maintain accurate and timely financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements. + Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and relevant not-for-profit standards. + Ensure accurate classification of revenue and expenses, including restricted and unrestricted funds. 2. Accounting Operations: + Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable functions to ensure proper accounting for transactions. + Maintain the general ledger, ensuring all transactions are properly recorded, classified, and reconciled. + Manage the preparation and processing of payroll and related reports. 3. Budgeting and Forecasting: + Assist in the development of annual budgets and forecasts in collaboration with management and other departments. + Monitor budget vs. actual financial performance and provide analysis to leadership for decision-making. 4. Grant and Contract Management: + Track and report on grant income and expenses to ensure compliance with funder requirements. + Prepare grant billing and financial reporting as required by funders. + Ensure timely and accurate submission of grant reports and documentation. + Prepare monthly claims for County, State and Federal contracts. + Assist in preparation of annual reports such as the Medicare Cost report, the Consolidated Fiscal report, the Ambulatory Healthcare financial report, MVR and UDS preparation. 5. Audit and Compliance: + Assist with the preparation of annual audits by providing requested documentation and support to external auditors. + Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws, as well as non-profit sector-specific regulations. + Adhere to internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure financial integrity. 6. Cash Management and Banking: + Monitor cash flow and assist in cash management strategies. + Perform bank reconciliations on a monthly basis and ensure that all discrepancies are resolved promptly. 7. Financial Analysis and Support: + Provide financial analysis and insight to help guide organizational decision-making. + Support senior leadership in strategic planning by delivering relevant financial data and reports. We Require: + Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) preferred. + Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years with not-for-profit organizations. + Strong understanding of not-for-profit accounting principles, including fund accounting, grant management, and IRS compliance. + Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel. + Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail. + Excellent written and verbal communication skills. + Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under tight deadlines. + Ability to work independently.
