Job Description

Overview:

The Senior Accountant is responsible for completing monthly accounting, job cost management and financial reporting for selected land projects and related entities. They will be responsible to critically evaluate on-going performance, efficiency, reporting, and internal controls, Joint Venture reporting for both Operations and Finance. In addition to these duties, they will be working on cross-functional teams as well as leading staff.

Key Deliverables:

Process Management

Record /calculate sales, cost of sales, land acquisition and accruals

Monitor, record and reconcile cash activity through the online banking system, wire transfers, stop payments, loan draws, capital calls, etc.

Track property taxes and prepare payments

Prepare entries for consolidation, elimination, billings of sales, reimbursements and month-end closing entries.

Reconcile accounts, including complex intercompany transactions including working capital

Work with internal departments with regards to purchase orders, change orders, budgets, paid to dates, reclasses

Special projects as assigned (creating procedures, forms, templates, reconciliations)

Audit/SOX Compliance

Evaluate internal controls, policies and procedures to ensure proper measures are in place. Implement improvements and new procedures, to ensure proper controls are established prior to new processes being implemented.

Provide ongoing review and evaluation of process documentation.

Liaise with Auditors as required, and provide requested information and respond to queries, as necessary.

Reporting and Analysis

Prepare monthly, quarterly and year-end working papers including full balance sheet reconciliation, ledger and sub-ledger journal entries, supporting financial and operational statements, and any required variance analysis.

Maintain the integrity of the land development budgets by verifying accuracy between LandDev, accounting system and department budget reports.

Prepare reports, tax filings and analysis of general ledger accounts

Skills & Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree (preferred) or is pursuing an Accounting Designation with 4-7 years’ experience. Ann equivalent mix of education and experience will be considered.

Land and/or homebuilding accounting experience.

Experience in financial reporting and working paper preparation, full-cycle and job cost accounting.

Developed business acumen and willingness to learn, including an exceptional work ethic and goal-oriented perspective.

Self-motivated, comfortable taking initiative, possesses superior organizational skills and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work independently in an efficient and effective manner to meet deadlines and work with multiple departments/managers and assignments simultaneously.

Proficiency with Microsoft Suite, including Excel, Word and Outlook.

Utilize intermediate Excel formulas to develop ad-hoc templates and streamline processes for automation.
