About the Role

We are looking for an experienced accountant who has knowledge to review contracts and transactions, determine proper accounting treatment, and record transactions following generally accepted accounting principles and NYT financial policies. You will also query and analyze data sets, summarize data in a concise and meaningful manner, and highlight insights that help inform validating recorded transactions and you will report directly to the Financial Manager, Revenue and General Accounting.

Responsibilities:

You will participate in month end closing work, including the preparation of journal entries and balance sheet account reconciliations.

Review customer contracts and other transactions and ensure/document the proper accounting following ASC 606 or other relevant accounting standards.

Recommend, document, and implement processes and controls to facilitate the proper accounting of revenue and expense contracts.

Collaborate with our revenue and operating departments to foster communication, learn about new contracts and products, improve processes and controls, and ensure the accuracy of our accounting.

Help research accounting questions related to internal and external reporting issues to ensure that financial results are reported in a complete and accurate manner consistent with our policies and accounting guidelines.

Compile information to satisfy requests from our external auditors.

Support NYT’s Sarbanes-Oxley program by participating in quarterly and annual assessments, testing, review and remediation of test exceptions.

Participate as a member of multiple project teams as assigned.

Participate in accounting and financial activities as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

Degree in Accounting or Finance

Certified Public Accountant

3+ years of accounting experience

Knowledge of technical accounting pronouncements and standards (GAAP, FASB)

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced Excel skills (i.e. macros, etc.)

Experience with Workday

Comfort in interpreting existing data and distilling analysis for management

The annual base pay range for this role is between $110,000.00 and $115,000.00.
