Senior Accountant of Business Combinations
Southern Veterinary Partners (SVP) is regional network of animal hospitals with the common goal of providing the highest quality veterinary care to companion animals. SVP currently owns over 400 locations around the country, is acquiring 7+ new locations per month and is sponsored by a leading private equity team. SVP has a need for a Senior Accountant of Business Combinations to join our rapidly growing team in Birmingham, AL. This role will be an integral part of the accounting team and will include accounting for and preparation of accounting-related matters for Business Combinations, Working Capital Settlements, Joint Venture Operations and other technical accounting areas. The person in this role will become an expert in accounting matters for SVP and its business combinations and joint ventures. This role will be an integral part of the monthly financial statement preparation process and opportunity to work on other ad hoc projects as part of a growing Company. Responsibilities: Review purchase price allocations for business combinations Analyze and review new acquisition agreements to determine key information that will impact accounting implications. Review opening balance sheets prepared by staff to accurately account for the fair value of assets and liabilities assumed as part of business combinations Evaluate fair value balances against SVP’s benchmarks and communicate key summaries and analysis to Management. Oversee the working capital settlements process related to acquisitions Manage our working capital settlement process, in which you will work directly with our Sellers and various internal departments Review transactions for accuracy and timing to determine the occurrence of pre vs. post close Provide reporting to Management on status, timing, and key project metrics Review and analyze joint venture financial statements Review monthly and quarterly financial statements for joint ventures, including Statement of Cash Flows, Balance Sheets, and Profit and Loss Statements Analyze and present financial results, fluxes and trends to management for analysis and review Calculate cash distributions and coordinate Management approvals Review complex monthly accounting tasks, including equity transactions, contingent consideration, and other key accounting areas Research and interpret U.S. GAAP on technical accounting issues and have an up to date knowledge of accounting standard updates and their implications to SVP Perform detail review of all accounting workpapers (rollforwards, calculations, agreements, etc.) Work closely with financial reporting team to prepare important deliverables to various internal and external parties throughout the fiscal year Prepare & facilitate information between various internal departments, coordinate meetings and calls as required Train and mentor junior accountants, offering guidance on accounting principles, financial analysis techniques, and internal control procedures Demonstrate a strong commitment to continuous learning, staying updated on emerging accounting standards, industry trends, and best practices through self-directed study and professional development courses Grow to lead and mentor staff level accounting professionals Be a key driver of accounting department initiatives, including but not limited to continuous accounting, evaluation and testing of new fintech and automation Own assigned accounting processes and creatively innovate on how to improve and scale processes for SVP’s growth Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Finance/Accounting or a related field 3+ years’ experience in accounting, audit or other relevant professional capacity CPA certification/ in the process of pursuing CPA certification preferred Experience working in retail or healthcare industry preferred Blackline experience preferred but not necessary Proficient at working in accounting software Advanced Excel Skills & working with large amounts of data Outstanding presentation, reporting and communication skills Ability to establish priorities and meet strict deadlines Benefits Work with an organization recognized as #1 in Healthcare by Newsweek’s Most Loved Workplaces in 2024.
