Responsible for the most complex activities associated with general ledger, financial/operating reports, and budget analysis. This level requires broad knowledge of accounting practices and principles including the preparation of strategic recommendations to management. May coach less senior accountants. Role typically requires more than 5 years of experience.We have an exciting opportunity for a knowledgeable Senior Accountant - Payroll at our corporate office in Oakville, Ontario. The Senior Accountant - Payroll is responsible for monthly, quarterly, and annual management and accounting services for all the business units within Procor Limited – Leasing Business Unit (LBU), Repair Business Unit (RBU) including both Shops and Field Services (FS). The incumbent will also assist with other financial projects, as appropriate.
Primary responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Liaise between the Finance, Payroll and HR teams.
Payroll account analysis and reconciliations for all three BU’s (LBU, Shops, Field) to verify accuracy and identify and resolve any outstanding issues on a timely basis, including backup and all supporting schedules. Prepare adjusting entries to correct identified errors.
Preparing spreadsheet models to be used by the Payroll and/or HR Team, such as vacation accruals, etc.
Document process flows of data across the various systems in the network.
Assist in gathering/analysis of data for various reporting.
Active involvement in peer, external and internal audits,
Contribute to the overall efficiency and quality of the RBU, FS and LBU Accounting Team by participating on project teams as assigned to develop new or revise accounting systems and procedures in order to conform to Procor management, Marmon management and Sarbanes Oxley expectations and deadlines.
Personify Procor’s Quality Policy, ensuring that teams work to meet internal and external customer expectations at all times by applying themselves to the task involved, preventing errors, and implementing personal and departmental quality improvement projects.

This is a challenging position for a person with the following minimum skills and qualifications:
8 years’ progressive experience in finance, specifically as it relates to HR / Payroll activitiesPost-secondary degree or diploma in accountingCPA or CMA designation is not required, but strongly preferredThorough knowledge and understanding of accounting principles including work experience in financial analysis, reconciliations, internal controls, and financial reportingAdvanced skills in Office 365 applications especially in ExcelExceptional communication skills, a positive attitude, and tactStrong organizational skills, be proactive, innovative, a self-starter, an independent thinker with multi-tasking capabilitiesPrevious experience in railcar or railroad industry is an assetFollowing receipt of a conditional offer of employment, candidates will be required to complete additional job-related screening processes as permitted or required by applicable law.
