We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Aerothermal Engineer to join the team

We are actively searching for qualified candidates for this potential opening; however, we do not have assurance at this time when the position will be finalized and opened. Because we have strong reason to believe the position will be approved soon, we are proceeding with identifying qualified candidates and conducting interviews.

The Senior Aerothermal Engineer will\:

Apply knowledge of high-speed Earth entry aerothermodynamics of spacecraft to boundary layer transition modeling. Utilize NASA Aerothermal CFD solvers for spacecraft entry analyses (such as DPLR, LAURA, US3D, FUN3D). Create CFD grids utilizing grid generation software like Pointwise or Hypermesh. Create CFD visualizations utilizing tools like Tecplot, Fieldview, or Paraview. Analyze and interpret ground test and flight data from aerodynamic and aerothermal perspectives. Perform deep dive analyses. Perform other duties as required.​ *

This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate's experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.

Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a BS with at least 15 years of experience. Expertise in high-speed Earth entry aerothermodynamics of spacecraft. Expertise in boundary layer transition modeling and interpretation of ground test and flight data. Familiarity with cavity, protuberance, blowing, and roughness induced boundary layer transition. Experience with a NASA Aerothermal CFD solver (DPLR, LAURA, US3D, FUN3D). Expert in entry vehicles including supersonic and hypersonic flows, aerodynamics, trajectories, and Aerothermodynamics. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment consisting of NASA civil servants and various contractor employees.

Requisition Preferences\:

BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school and ten (15) years of direct engineering experience, or an MS degree from an accredited engineering school and eight (12) years of direct engineering experience, or a Ph.D. MS or Ph.D. in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering. Experience with CFD database management and post processing automation for dissemination of downstream products. Experience with CFD visualization tools like Tecplot, Fieldview, or Paraview. Experience with CFD grid generation software like Pointwise or Hypermesh. Experience with configuration management.

Attendance

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.

Other Essential Functions

Professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
