Senior Analyst

This opening is for a Senior Analyst position within the Data Technology Group (DTG) in the Research and Model Development Department.

As a member of the Data Technology Group, you’ll support the modelers by identifying and providing the latest in geospatial data and services. The Data Technology Group serves several functions and responsibilities within the Department, allowing for a variety of exciting and challenging opportunities.  In this position you’ll work with modelers to determine the best available datasets, derive and create new datasets, and develop automation scripts and tools to increase development efficiency.  You will assist with the development and planning of DTG’s numerous data repositories, and work on several existing and future web mapping applications and visualization tools.  

This position will have ample opportunity to collaborate with a variety of individuals and groups across Research and other Departments. To be successful in this position, the candidate must have an ear to the customer, not be afraid to ask questions, seek out areas for improvement, and push innovation. 

 


•    Degree in GIS, geography, computer science, data science, or related field
o    Bachelor's degree required; Master’s degree preferred
•    3+ years of professional experience
•    Proven ability to perform advanced GIS tasks in GIS software or other platforms
o    Esri ArcGIS and/or QGIS experience required
o    Complex vector and raster geoprocessing tasks and projects
o    Experience performing or overseeing data edits and QA/QC
•    Proficient in automation tools and programming language(s). 
o    Python knowledge is required. Python fluency is desired.
o    R, SQL syntax, Model Builder, etc.
•    Experience working with datasets >100GB highly desirable
•    Problem solver, resourceful, self-starter, and can work independently
•    Organized
•    Ability and willingness to work in a highly collaborative atmosphere
•    Strong communication skills 
o    Able to speak freely, openly provide suggestions and comments
•    Passionate about what geospatial technologies can bring to an organization

•    Perform intermediate to advanced level geospatial processing in a GIS software
•    Develop new automation tools using Python (or Esri Model Builder) to streamline development processes
•    Assist modelers with their GIS needs, including, but not limited to, individual and group training, participation in EES community engagements, and building up a DTG knowledge base
•    Seek out new and innovative GIS datasets, technologies, and methods and evaluate its usefulness within the Research Department
•    Collaborate with members of Research and other Departments to develop and maintain solutions for use during real-time disasters
•    Adopt online mapping technologies to bolster model development initiatives 
•    Understand GIS data and service needs within Research and coordinate with teams in Boston and India to procure and make available
•    Work with DTG peers to administer Global model boundary GIS datasets
•    Create maps, reports, summaries
