Senior Analytics Engineer, Data Strategy

We are seeking a talented individual to join our Data Strategy team at Guy Carpenter. This role will be based in New York, NY; Boston, MA or Philadelphia, PA. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.

The GC Data Strategy team builds and supports data assets and products within Guy Carpenter, Marsh McLennan's reinsurance brokerage. The Senior Analytics Engineer will work with Data Strategy data engineers, data scientists, product managers, and stakeholders from other Guy Carpenter teams to provide business value and increase the efficiency of our internal colleagues. This technical leadership role involves leading a startup-like team of 3-5 data practitioners with a product manager. The Senior Analytics Engineer will help guide the development of data pipelines, applications, dashboards, and machine-learning models while sharing responsibility for direct (internal) customer engagement.

We'll count on you for:

Data analytics: Work with clients and colleagues to determine their high-impact data challenges. Conduct exploratory analysis with business understanding and technical expertise, culminating in data product solution designs.

Data engineering: Work with other engineers to create or improve data pipelines, dashboards, web applications, or other technologies to action identified needs with maximum ROI. Stay current on analytics technology and proactively identify new options for creating business value.

Leadership: Lead a team of data engineers/analysts/scientists, providing technical guidance and career development, and foster a collaborative, high-performance work environment. Work with the PM to plan and prioritize work based on business objectives and timelines.

What you need to have:

5+ years of experience as a data analyst, analytics engineer, or similar

2+ years of experience with data modeling (preferably with dbt)

1+ years of leading a data team with a proven track record of deploying data products

Strong proficiency in SQL and Python

Working knowledge of ETL/ELT and REST API principles and schema design across source systems, data lakes, and dashboards

Familiarity with machine learning techniques and productization/MLOps

Experience with Databricks or other equivalent MPP tools like Snowflake or BigQuery

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a technical and quantitative discipline

Familiarity with data reporting and visualization tools such as PowerBI, Tableau, or Looker

Experience delivering analytic tools or applications to semi- or non-technical users

Office-based teams will identify at least one “anchor day” per week on which their full team will be together in person.

The applicable base salary range for this role is $94,700 to $170,300.

The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
