Senior Applied Scientist
The AI Platform organization at Microsoft builds the end-to-end Azure AI stack/PaaS and is core to Azure’s innovation and differentiation, as well as all of Microsoft’s flagship products, from Office to Teams, to Xbox. We are the team building Azure OpenAI, Azure ML, Cognitive Services, and the global Azure AI infrastructure for running the largest AI workloads on the planet. We are looking for a Senior Applied Scientist to join the Azure AI for Language Science team. We’re searching for someone who’s passionate about transferring the state of the art in NLP (Natural Language Processing/Generation/Understanding). research into actual products, and about building models that can deliver scale and performance that Azure customers need. In alignment with our Microsoft values, we are committed to cultivating an inclusive work environment for all employees to positively impact our culture every day. **Responsibilities** + You will keep a sharp eye on the latest and greatest from the broad NLGPU research and opensource community.•  You will develop on the state of the art of NLP research, and translate the research into new technologies that benefit real customers.•  You will work with engineering and program management teams to integrate models and algorithms into production systems. + Drive the development and execution of cutting-edge research projects in language processing/generation/understanding area. + Leverage data from various sources and domains to design and implement innovative solutions that achieve rigorous metrics and address customer needs. + Communicate the results and impact of your research and development to senior leadership and external audiences through publications, presentations, and demos. + Collaborate with product groups and other stakeholders to transfer your research and development solutions to scalable and robust products and services. + Mentor and guide early-career scientists in the team. **Qualifications** **Required/Minimum Qualifications** + Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years related experience (e.g., statistics predictive analytics, research) + OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research) + OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research) + OR equivalent experience **Additional or Preferred Qualifications** + · Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)o OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)o OR equivalent experience. + Background in natural language processing, as demonstrated by a practical experience building complex NLP systems (Natural Language Processing/Generation/Understanding).Stay current on trends in NLP, with a focus on representational learning, information extraction, coreference resolution, natural language generation, summarization, textual inference, question-answering, model interpretability and other related research. + Experience in developing and deploying products or systems at multiple points in the product cycle from ideation to shipping.Experience designing experiments, and you revel in answering questions with data. + · 3+ years experience creating publications (e.g., patents, libraries, peer-reviewed academic papers).· Experience presenting at conferences or other events in the outside research/industry community as an invited speaker.· 3+ years experience conducting research as part of a research program (in academic or industry settings).· 1+ year(s) experience developing and deploying live production systems, as part of a product team.· 1+ year(s) experience developing and deploying products or systems at multiple points in the product cycle from ideation to shipping. Applied Sciences IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
