Senior Architect – On site / DoD Projects
OVERVIEW Merrick & Company is seeking for a Senior Architect to join a highly qualified team of architects and engineers providing Advisory and Assistance Services (A&AS) to our client that is an agency of the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). The A&AS Engineering Team is an integral part of the Mission Integration (MI) group within the larger A&AS team. The Engineering Team supports international projects for the DoD in a multi-disciplinary environment that includes project managers, scientists, biosafety, and biosecurity experts, among others. The successful candidate will join our growing Merrick team in Richmond, VA and will be based full-time at our client location in Lorton, VA – approximately 17 miles south Washington, DC. Typical annual pay range for this position is $120,000 to $130,000. Pay offered may vary depending on job related knowledge, skills, and experience. WHAT YOU'LL DO The A&AS Senior Architect is a subject matter expert (SME) acting as owner’s representative ensuring that design and construction projects are planned and executed with the highest level of quality and in line with international industry standards. In this position, the Senior Architect conducts design reviews and technical evaluations of construction documents and assists client’s project managers in acquisition activities including source selection, evaluation of proposals, and project schedules. DUTIES Assist the Engineering Team Lead, in coordinating the work of a group of architects and engineers serving as SMEs Employ solid architectural skills in supporting diverse DoD’s missions through design and construction projects abroad (OCONUS) Conduct and perform site and facility assessments to define functional requirements for new construction and renovation projects Provide technical assistance to project managers in developing the scope of work for new construction and renovation projects Perform technical evaluations of proposals from third-party architecture/engineering firms focusing on completeness, overall adherence to scope of work and schedule realism Execute and perform thorough technical review of construction documents developed by third-party architecture/engineering firms Mentor and coordinate the work of junior engineering staff Lead and coordinate meetings with DoD personnel and international project stakeholders Some international travel will be required to meet project stakeholders and/or assess existing conditions of existing structures Preparation of technical trip reports containing detailed narratives and illustrations of findings Participate in national/international design charrettes acting as owner’s representative Develop and manage schedule and budgets for projects REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Master’s degree in Architecture with ten (10) years of experience OR Bachelor’s degree in Architecture with fifteen (15) years of experience. Demonstrated expertise in engineering design document review and markup. Demonstrated proficiency of state-of-the-art engineering tools, techniques, and approaches in executing engineering support. Excellent communication, written, and organizational skills. Ability to work on multiple projects which includes prioritizing, tracking, attention to detail, follow-up, and follow-through to project completion. Ability to travel up to 25% of the time internationally. Local candidates preferred, or willingness to relocate/commute to Northern Virginia Our client requires all travelers to be fully vaccinated for traveling. Must have an active US DOD Secret Clearance, or the ability and willingness to obtain a Secret clearance. Client projects for this position requires U.S. Citizenship. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience working internationally and/or in resource-constrained countries. Experience working with the U.S. government on areas concerning national security. Familiarity with State-level and regional CWMD threats. Familiarity with nonproliferation obligations, approaches, and objectives.
