About this team 

This role is on Point-of-Sale team in the lululemon technology organization. This team is responsible for creating api’s and backend integration following microservices architecture principles on AWS cloud infrastructure stack. This Solution Architect position is a highly technical role with accountability for architecture scoped to business-transformative projects and is involved with projects from inception through implementation.

A day in the life

As a Senior Architect II, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and driving the architectural strategy for complex, large-scale, and mission-critical systems across the organization. You will take ownership of the overall technical vision and ensure that the systems and services are designed for optimal scalability, performance, and resilience. This role requires a deep technical expertise, hands-on leadership, and the ability to influence and collaborate with multiple cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact solutions that align with both business goals and technology roadmaps.

As a Senior Architect II, you will take the lead in defining technical standards, setting architectural direction, and mentoring teams across multiple engineering domains. You will also collaborate with other senior leaders to ensure that your architectural designs and decisions support long-term organizational growth, while fostering a culture of innovation and excellence in the development process.


•    Architect Complex Solutions: Design and architect high-performance systems meeting business, scalability, security, and operational requirements.

•    Provide Strategic Leadership: Drive technical architecture strategy across multiple domains, aligning with business goals and technology roadmaps.

•    Design for Scalability & Resilience: Ensure systems are highly available, fault-tolerant, scalable, and cost-efficient using cloud-native and microservices architectures.

•    Establish Best Practices: Create, document, and enforce architectural standards to ensure consistency and quality across teams.

•    Influence Technical Direction: Evaluate and shape the organization’s technical direction, assessing new technologies and conducting POCs.

•    Lead Technical Decision-Making: Make key decisions on cloud platforms, containerization, CI/CD, and microservices architecture.

•    Ensure System Integration: Integrate systems with internal/external platforms for consistent, efficient, and high-performance data flow.

•    Pipeline Integration: Devise strategies and identify solutions which would facilitate Quality and Performance gates to be embedded into the pipelines with as shift left attitude for early feedback. 

•    Foster Innovation: Promote continuous learning and experimentation with new technologies to drive innovation and improve performance.

•    Drive NFRs: Ensure architecture meets non-functional requirements like security, scalability, and compliance.

•    Ensure Operational Excellence: Design solutions for smooth operations, troubleshooting, and collaboration with ops teams for deployment readiness.

•    Manage Technical Debt: Identify and prioritize efforts to reduce technical debt, balancing innovation with system health.

•    Lead Cross-Team Collaboration: Work with architects, engineering teams, and leadership to drive technical strategy and ensure resource alignment.

•    Research Emerging Technologies: Stay updated on industry trends and evaluate new technologies for potential application within architecture.

Qualifications 

•    Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or related field.

•    Experience: 8+ years in software engineering or architecture, with 6+ years in a senior/lead role; extensive experience in designing, developing, and deploying large-scale systems in Point-of-Sale space.

•    Cloud Expertise: Extensive experience with AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, cloud-native patterns, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), serverless, and microservices.

•    Architecture Knowledge: Expertise in microservices, event-driven systems, distributed architectures, scalability, performance tuning, and fault tolerance.

•    Development Tools: Proficient with CI/CD, container orchestration, automation (Terraform, Jenkins, Ansible), and version control (Git).

•    Technology Roadmap: 6+ years’ experience in developing technology roadmap and driving strategy discussions.

•    Leadership & Mentorship: Proven ability to mentor engineers, lead teams, and promote best practices in code quality and architecture.

•    System Integration: Expertise in integrating complex systems, including RESTful APIs, message-driven systems, and event-based architectures.

•    Compliance & Security: Strong knowledge of security best practices and experience with compliance frameworks (PCI, GDPR, SOX) in cloud environments.

•    Problem-Solving: Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, architecting solutions that balance performance, scalability, and business needs.

•    Cross-Domain Expertise: Knowledge across technologies like mobile, big data, analytics, IoT, supply chain, and payment systems.

•    Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication, able to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and influence decision-making.

•    Driving Change: Proven track record of driving innovation and change within organizations, introducing new technologies and improving systems.

Compensation and Benefits Package lululemon’s compensation offerings are grounded in a pay-for-performance philosophy that recognizes exceptional individual and team performance. The typical hiring range for this position is from $148,000-$194,300  CAD annually; the base pay offered is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards offering, permanent employees in this position may be eligible for our competitive annual bonus program.
