Senior Architectural Historian

Position Summary: Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) is seeking a full-time Architectural Historian with 8+ years’ experience to assist our Cultural Resources team. The position will entail technical work focusing on historic structures documentation and evaluation, and architectural survey work. 

 

Additional JMT office locations may be considered.

 

The successful candidate will be part of an interdisciplinary team including archaeologists, architectural historians, historians, environmental scientists, engineers, and planners. The qualified candidate must be able to write at a professional level and present ideas in a well thought-out and comprehensive manner. The preferred candidate will enjoy a variety of working conditions ranging from field efforts to office analysis.  

 

Compensation is $75,000. - $100,000. annual salary, commensurate with experience, education, and certifications.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Serves as Principal Investigator for architectural resource documentation and evaluation projects Oversees Junior Staff Coordinates directly with project managers and agency staff Conducts archival and background research Conducts architectural and historical field surveys Evaluates resource for NRHP eligibility Assesses effects as required under Section 106 of the NHPA and applicable state historic preservation laws Documents methodologies and findings of research and investigations Prepares architectural inventory forms Writes architectural and historical resources reports Assists in making decisions about project alternatives and the resolution of adverse effects to architectural resources Assists in the preparation of scopes of work, fee proposals, and responses to RFP’s Writes property descriptions, historical narratives, significance statements, and National Register justifications
