Senior Assignment Editor

Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking a Senior Editor to join its Opinion Department. This Senior Editor will be responsible for working with staff columnists who cover these beats – as well as developing subject-specific op-ed articles and prospecting for new writers. As a leader in the department, this editor will also play a role in developing creative strategies for effective publishing. This role reports to Mary Duenwald, deputy opinion editor.

Responsibilities

Aim to create definitive opinion coverage in your area.Ensure that the writers you are working with are constantly engaged and working in a range of different editorial forms.Develop ideas, shape writing and publish the sharpest possible views.Coordinate with the wider department to ensure every article is published for maximum effectiveness.Be on constant lookout for new writers, fresh subjects and innovations in publishing.


Qualifications

5+ years of experience editing opinion journalism.Experience managing writers and editors.Experience developing new editorial forms and publishing techniques.Experience with digital media.Strong presentation and writing skills.A collaborative spirit and ability to build strong partnerships across teams.

The salary range for this position is:

149,900.00 - 278,300.00 USD Annual

The actual salary within this range will depend on individual skills, experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements. This position may be eligible for a bonus or incentive program, and a member of the Talent Acquisition team will discuss bonus payment terms and conditions during the interview process.
