Purpose

This position supports the Steve Hicks School of Social Work and its office of the Director of Marketing and Communications. As part of a dynamic team, the Communications Specialist will support communication efforts to further the Steve Hicks School of Social Work strategic goals and initiatives through print and digital communications, marketing projects, and public relations efforts.

Responsibilities

Create and develop digital and print content for publications such as The Utopian, the SHS Annual Report, website content, and other SHS publications as needed.Provide copy-editing services for publications, articles, and materials created by the SHS Office of Marketing and Communications.Conduct subject interviews and background research to support content for the SHS Office of Marketing and Communications and the SHS Office of Development.Prepare talking points and develop speech-writing for events on behalf of SHS leadership, including the Dean.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree (equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.)Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with keen eye for details.Familiarity in AP Style.Demonstrate the ability to prioritize responsibilities, problem solve, manage multiple concurrent projects, and meet deadlines.Excellent project management and organizational skills.Proficiency in MS Outlook and MS Word.

Preferred Qualifications

Five or more years of experience in written content creation.Prior experience in higher education, specifically at The University of Texas at Austin.

Salary Range

$42,500 annually (+ depending on experience) on a 20/hour a week basis

Position Duration:

One year term renewable, pending availability of funds.
