Our Senior Attorneys in the Emergency Action Unit (EAU) are on the front lines, protecting patients by taking swift and decisive action against healthcare professionals who pose an immediate serious danger to public safety. This role is critical for those passionate about making a real difference in people's lives. The Mission: As a Senior Attorney in EAU, you’ll have the opportunity to directly influence the well-being of Floridians by ensuring that unsafe practitioners are quickly removed from practice. In this fast-paced and independent role, you’ll be responsible for handling cases of great public importance, collaborating with investigators, and making decisions that can save lives. Every case you handle has the potential to have an immediate impact on patient safety across the state. Your work ensures that Florida’s healthcare professionals meet the standards of practice. Your Specific Responsibilities: - Review and prioritize urgent cases to assess if a licensee poses an immediate danger to public health and safety. - Work closely with investigators, law enforcement, and regulatory agencies to gather critical information. - Draft Emergency Orders that restrict or suspend healthcare licenses in cases of immediate risk. - Present cases to healthcare licensing boards' probable cause panels. - Represent the Department in administrative hearings and circuit courts, working towards fair resolutions that protect the public. - Independently manage litigation, from preparation and discovery to hearings and post-hearing pleadings. - Respond to public records requests and inquiries from attorneys and agencies on active cases. Qualifications: - Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school. - Florida Bar membership. - At least one year of legal experience.
