Duties Description Under the direction of the Associate Attorney, SG-28, within the Office of Victim Services (OVS) the temporary Senior Attorney, SG-25, will be responsible for the following duties, including but not limited to: • Preparing agency response and working with the Attorney General’s Office (AG) on securing injunctions on behalf of crime victims/surviving family members and other legal matters related to the state’s enforcement of the “Son of Sam” law [Exec law, §632-a], including:o Identifying qualifying crimes,o Identifying potential victims/surviving family members and notifying them, ando Overseeing the vacating of injunctions.• Preparing agency response and working with AG in response to civil legal actions brought against the agency [CPLR, Art. 78].• Briefing senior agency staff, supervising any necessary follow-up investigation, and preparing the related administrative appeal determinations.• Serve as the internal point of contact for OVS’ Administrative Services and Grants Unit staff for items such as responding to legal questions and drafting of MOU/MOAs. • Advise General Counsel on crime victim related policies generally, and “Son of Sam,” administrative appeals and pending Art. 78s specifically.• Review file copy requests for necessary redactions.• Prepare and/or review other draft contract/MOU language.
Minimum Qualifications Candidate must have a law degree from an accredited law school; Admission to the NYS bar and two years of post-licensure professional legal experience.
