Senior Backend Engineer, Early Stage Project Software Engineering Mountain View, CA (HQ) About the Team: We are a team of engineers, scientists, and designers dedicated to making housing and development more sustainable and equitable. We are developing novel AI solutions to address complex challenges in these industries to drive greater equity, innovation and efficiency. Currently incubating at X, Alphabet’s innovation lab, we are now building the team that will scale our project for global impact. The Role: As a backend infrastructure software engineer you will help the team design & implement scalable, high performance infrastructure. You will be part of a talented, interdisciplinary engineering team helping build an AI platform from the ground up. This is a multifaceted role, part backend engineer, part SRE, part infrastructure. We’re looking for someone with a startup ethos who loves wearing multiple hats. How you will make 10X Impact: + Design and implement robust, end to end production-level software to enable inference, optimization, and other complex services as part of a SaaS offering + Help build and maintain a stable, efficient CI/CD pipeline + Work effectively with cross-functional teams of engineers, scientists, domain experts and PMs. + Have strong software engineering/system design skills and being excited about solving complex problems at scale and navigating ambiguity What you should have: + At least 5 years of experience building large, complex software systems and applications + Experience with large-scale data processing and modeling, designing backend services and building enterprise/consumer applications + Experience with backend technologies such as Java/Kotlin/GoLang, Protocol Buffers, gRPC, Pub/Sub, monitoring + Ability to work in small teams / rapid prototyping environment It’d be great if you also had these: + Experience building applications and infra leveraging the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) stack + Experience with building full-stack applications + Experience working in a Startup/early stage company with rapidly changing requirements and limited oversight The US base salary range for this full-time position is $174,000 - $276,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
