**Banner University Medical Center - South Campus** , houses the only Level 1 Academic Medical Center in Tucson meeting the needs of the SMI population. The Behavioral Health Pavilion is also the largest inpatient psychiatric service in Southern Arizona. Our team provides patients a safe, supportive environment that fosters healing and facilitates a return to the highest possible level of independence. Other services include crisis stabilization, psychiatric assessments, 24-hours psychiatric & nursing care, expressive arts therapy, group therapy, family support therapy, medication management and a separate behavioral health unit within the Emergency Department. You can become an integral member of our patient's team, along with psychiatric doctors, NPs, pharmacists, Registered Nurses and security officers.
As a **Sr Behavioral Health Specialist** you will focus on making behavioral health specialists assignments for floor and DPOs, support fellow Behavioral Health Specialists on the unit, communicate with Lead RN/Charge RN, hand hygiene audits, delegate patient admission and/or discharge process is completed (belongings, admissions folder, etc.), Direct Observer/Q15 documents are completed for shift you will focus on safety checks, assisting in ADL's, Milieu management, falls prevention measures, and 1 on 1 observations.

The hours for day shift will be from 7:00P-7:30A.
This will be for 3 shifts per week which will include weekends and holidays on a rotating basis. Enjoy a $1/hr Weekend Shift differential, when applicable.

Banner - University Medical Center South is a comprehensive academic medical center that includes an Emergency department, a state-designated trauma center and a Behavioral Health Pavilion. We are an Arizona Department of Health Services-accredited Cardiac Receiving Center and a Nurses Improving Care for Health system Elders-designated senior-friendly hospital. The hospital is staffed by physicians who are full-time faculty of the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson and is managed by Banner Health under an operating agreement with Pima County. Our specialty services include inpatient and outpatient behavioral health, treatment and education for diabetes, innovative geriatrics care and comprehensive orthopedics.
POSITION SUMMARY
This position provides direct health care and therapeutic services to psychiatric patients under the direct supervision of the nurse.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Provides oversight in the clinical setting, mentoring and leadership of Behavioral Health Specialists including implementation of behavior management techniques.
2. Guides work of assigned staff to achieve the defined business goals and to ensure smooth work flow in the department. Coordinates team activities and the staff-to-workload ratios to accomplish the most effective use of resources. Helps set work goals for team members and monitors measurable outcomes in accuracy, timeliness, productivity and service quality.
3. In collaboration with RN Manager and/or Senior RN Manager, plans, develops, oversees, implements, and evaluates age-appropriate didactic and social/skills groups that are consistent with treatment plan goals.
4. Reviews and audits Behavioral Health Specialist documentation as appropriate and provide guidance when needed.
5. Documents observations, interventions, and group activities in patient record.
6. Maintains patient safety through observing and reporting to RN patient behaviors, communications, interactions and physical status. Checks for contraband, makes rounds and monitors meals. Participates in restraining and secluding patients.
7. Consistently demonstrates professional, respectful, cooperative, and considerate behavior toward internal and external customers. Documents observations, interventions, and group activities in the patient record. Interacts therapeutically with patient and family.
8. Coordinates and participates in special projects as assigned. May be involved in the interview process. May provide feedback to peers.
9. Works under limited supervision following defined procedures and holds responsibility for the performance of the assigned work group. Interacts with all levels of Banner staff; physicians, patients, families and external providers.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge normally obtained through the completion of a Bachelor’s degree or four years of experience. Demonstrated leadership and adolescent psychiatric milieu management, if relevant to the role.
Employees working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital or BTMC Behavioral must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment. Employees working in the Banner McKee Senior Behavioral Health Inpatient Unit must possess a Colorado Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment. Employees working in any Banner Staffing (BSS) Behavioral Health role in Arizona must possess a State of Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment.
Certification for BLS is also required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's Degree preferred in Social Work, Counseling or Psychology and two years experience in behavioral health service delivery.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
