Senior Billing Specialist

Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking a highly skilled Senior Billing Specialist to join our Finance Operations team. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the billing and financial processes for both print subscribers and agents, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of all billing activities. You will play a key role in resolving billing discrepancies and collaborating with internal teams to provide valuable financial data and analysis.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong finance background, with the ability to prioritize tasks, plan effectively, and execute with precision. A deep understanding of complex business and individual accounts is essential, along with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with independent agents who are integral to the daily delivery of The Washington Post.

This position demands a detail-oriented, proactive individual who can work independently to meet deadlines, optimize billing processes, and contribute to continuous improvements in the billing system.

Responsibilities

Process daily billing for our print subscribersRespond promptly to inquiries from agents, call center reps and subscribersCreate accurate and complete billing statements for agentsCalculate and execute financial adjustments on subscriber accounts to resolve billing discrepanciesPerform weekly analysis on client debt and withhold payments in accordance with guidelines providedMaintain integrity of billing files and transmissionsManage print subscriber write-off recovery processDaily maintenance of corporate aging fileCommunicate with corporate and partner accounts to assist in collection effortsPerform credit card chargebacksOpen tickets with technical support team to report, test and resolve billing system issuesValidation of new agent contract rates and recurring provisionsSuggest, request and test enhancements to billing system to streamline and/or automate processesAssist in resolving General Ledger variancesProvide monthly metrics to managementAssist with annual internal audit requestsPerform other duties as assigned

Requirements

2-3 years’ experience in subscription-based billingKnowledge of advanced Excel functionalitiesExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to work effectively within a fast paced, changing environmentSelf-starter with the demonstrated ability to take initiative, proactively identify issues/opportunities and recommend actionsStrong analytical skills and attention to detailExperience with billing automation a plusBachelor’s degree preferred

The salary range for this position is:

48,600.00 - 73,000.00 USD Annual

The actual salary within this range will depend on individual skills, experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements. This position may be eligible for a bonus or incentive program, and a member of the Talent Acquisition team will discuss bonus payment terms and conditions during the interview process.
