Senior Biomed Electronics Specialist
Overview Fairview is looking for a Senior Biomed Electronics Specialist to join our team at Southdale hospital! Under minimal supervision of the Manager, inspect, repair, maintain, and calibrate all types of basic clinical equipment, devices, system, and instruments. Interact on a routine basis with other clinical health providers in the identification of technology-based problems and solution development. A Sr. BMET Specialist represents the highest level of technical expertise and possesses the ability to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain the full range of clinical inventory devices, instrumentation, and systems. The Sr. BMET Specialist will possess a substantial background of knowledge and experience with specific advanced training in Surgery or Dialysis. The Sr. BMET Specialist is expected to contribute to: initiatives regarding improvement and development of policy and procedures; technical guidance in the selection and installation of medical equipment and systems; and staff development and mentorship. Responsibilities Job Description Communicates timely and accurately with customers on work completed, equip. status (waiting for parts, loaner coming in,etc) and potential alternatives for emergencies. Follows through on projects to meet set deadlines. Demonstrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served. Maintains good personal relationships with fellow workers, nursing, professional, clinical, and medical staff, and general public. Completes repairs within 24 hours (when parts are available) or 5 days (if parts are ordered). Communicates updates and status of issues with Manager. Practice courtesy and professionalism in all phone and interpersonal conversations Responds to emergency equipment failures as requested by hospital departments Routinely provides after-hours on-call duty. Identifies and documents parts/supplies necessary to maintain equipment Expedites shipment of equipment & parts to/from hospital for repair/replacement to ensure equipment downtime is kept to a reasonable minimum. Proficiently performs troubleshooting & repair on a broad range of equipment Competently performs scheduled maintenance (Safety, Performance, etc.) prior to installation and in accordance to established schedules & appropriate protocols Performs incoming inspections, attach and assign control numbers and labels, and acquires the necessary information for accurate database inventory entries. Coordinates/monitors work performed by outside contractors & tracks progress Provides technical assistance and instruction to hospital staff on equipment operations and maintenance. Performs/contributes to special projects as assigned in a timely manner & keeps all parties informed as to progress Uses supplies and equipment cost effectively. Efficiently using available resources (tools, computer, etc). Assists in researching resources for parts and services and initiate ordering parts and supplies Schedules and oversees third party activities as necessary Works in a manner to achieve all budgetary objectives Demonstrates initiative and concern for planning, time utilization, and cost containment. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: 2 year Associates Degree in Electronics Technology or equivalent experience Significant factory-level training of clinical equipment including specialized training in Dialysis or Surgery. 4 years of Biomedical experience in a healthcare environment with advanced training in Surgery (anesthesia) or Dialysis Preferred Qualifications: 2 year Associates Degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology Bachelor degree in Biomedical Engineering with supervised internship 4-10 years experience within a healthcare setting with direct responsibility for the maintenance and repair of a broad range of clinical devices. Completion of manufacture, trade, or other formal training on the maintenance and repair of a broad range of equipment related to the clinical inventory in the Fairview facility. Military experience within a specialty associated with Biomedical equipment repair. CBET Certification Additional Requirements: Working knowledge of standard computer applications (i.e., Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint) First hand familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements and processes for Joint Commission, OSHA, NFPA, and other relevant agencies (i.e., NEC, FDA, CAP, etc.) Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays if necessary.
