Position Summary:  JMT’s Herndon, VA Office is growing and seeks a motivated individual who desires increasing responsibilities across a variety of bridge and transportation structure projects at the local, state, and federal level.   The successful candidate will be responsible for designing bridge and transportation structure projects of varying complexity in accordance with AASHTO, VDOT, and client specifications; preparing and checking plans prepared by others for conformance with specifications and standards; designing and detailing structural components; preparing construction cost estimates and specifications; and reviewing shop drawings.  In addition, the successful candidate will perform existing condition assessments and inspections of bridge and transportation structures in support of developing reports and repair and rehabilitation recommendations.  U.S. Residency Required.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects Perform design computations Design projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing tools Develop construction cost estimates Assist in the preparation of engineering documents for advertisement and construction Prepare and compile contract plans, specifications and estimates Manage project sub-consultants and in-house support disciplines Develop extra work order requests and open-end contract task proposals Prepare proposals as required Attend meetings with clients Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality
