Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Inspects residential, commercial, industrial, and other buildings during and after construction to ensure that components such as footings, floor framing, completed framing, chimneys, and stairways meet provisions of building, grading, zoning, and safety laws and approved plans, specifications, and standards.Observes conditions and issues notices for corrections to persons responsible for conformance.Obtains evidence and prepares reports concerning violations which have not been corrected.Interprets legal requirements and recommends compliance procedures to contractors, craftworkers, developers, and owners.Keeps inspection records and prepares reports for use by administrative or judicial authorities.Conducts surveys of existing buildings to determine lack of prescribed maintenance, housing violations, or hazardous conditions.Reviews request for and issues building permits.May train clerical, other inspection personnel.Job Requirements / Qualifications
One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Ability to read and interpret documents such as drawing plans, calculations, soils reports, energy calculations, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Ability to prioritize multiple projects and tasks to ensure timely delivery of high-quality deliverables. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.ICC Certification as a Building Inspector required; ICC Certification as a Combination Building Inspector or Plans Examiner desirable.EEO Non-Discrimination and ADA Reasonable Accommodation Statement
