Job Description:

The Senior Business Data Analyst plays a critical role in driving data-informed decision-making across Canadian Operations, mentoring team members, and setting the standard for analytical excellence. The Senior Business Data Analyst is passionate about data, with superior analytical, data exploration, modeling and visualization skills. As part of the Operational Business Intelligence team, the Senior Business Data Analyst will proactively work with business partners to distill  insights into conclusions and recommendations that drive action and enable decision-making for our partners in Canadian Operations.

What will you do?

Use data to craft compelling narratives that support business partners in decision-making processes, enabling them to improve outcomes with data-driven actions.Proactively analyze data to reveal valuable business insights, including trends, correlations, and anomalies.Consult with and provide recommendations to business partners on how to improve outcomes using insights uncovered in data.Convert data and information into business-relevant stories tailored to the audience.Discuss and present findings with senior leaders.Design reports and visualizations to facilitate ongoing data-driven decision-making for operations leaders and improve speed-to-decision.Maintain standards for analysis and reporting at all levels including metrics definitions, data governance, documentation, testing and visualization techniques.

What will you need to succeed?

Minimum undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience5-10 years of experience with analytics technologies, including:SQL or other data querying and manipulation languagesExpertise in Tableau or other BI development toolsStatistical methods, software and analysisProven track record in UX-focused data visualizations and decision enablement tools.Demonstrated experience evaluating data analyses and generating actionable insights.Exceptional communication skills, with a proven history of distilling intricate concepts for non-technical stakeholders, including superior presentation skills, storytelling abilities, and interaction with senior leadership.Demonstrated ability to address complex business questions by sourcing, collecting, and synthesizing information from multiple sources.Ability to tailor communication to various audiences, providing appropriate levels of detail and impactful "so what" analysis What will be good to have?Curiousity; an eagerness to learn how multiple businesses function and how to source and discover data to help answer questionsAbility to negotiate and partner with stakeholders to influence scope and priorities across multiple concurrent projects.

Tableau certificationsKnowledge of the Insurance or Financial Services industryExperience in Operations ManagementLeadership or people-management experience guiding junior analysts and managing complex projects

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
