The University of Texas at Austin is seeking to hire a Senior CADD Specialist for the In-House Design Team within Planning, Design and Construction (PDC).  Position will provide advanced technical and drafting skills in performing manual or computer-aided drafting and design (CADD) work. Responsible for preparing complex drawings for mechanical, electrical engineering, geological, architectural, structural or civil engineering drafts. Prepares complex, detailed drawings using CADD equipment or manual tools. Designs and works up detailed drawings of machinery and equipment. Prepares mechanical and development drawings. Draws wiring diagrams. Plots and draws curves and prepares graphs. Prepares perspective, orthographic, and other illustrations. Drafts cross sections, contour and isopach maps. Makes computations necessary to complete the assigned tasks. Purpose

Responsible for assisting in the  preparation, design, and completion of architectural and engineering schematic, design and construction documents while adhering to client requirements, code requirements and site adjustments.  

Responsibilities

Assist in the completion of architectural/engineering schematic, design and construction documents for the area of expertise required to ensure high quality, innovative, functional design and the adherence to codes and standards. 

Gather drawings and specifications, calculate material and equipment requirements, and consult technical handbooks and tables in preparation of technical document sets. Review with Design Services Project Team Lead.

Assist with the creation, documentation, tracking and processing of design related documents to include the standardized digital file organization of the documents, applications, processes, and databases from Design through Construction Administration.

Coordinate meetings and/or site visits for on-site assessments to ensure best design. Schedule or coordinate with the in-house Technical Review Team for clarification or issue resolution of design issues.  Support responses to construction RFIs as they relate to construction documents.

Maintain licensure, including continuing education requirements.

Required Qualifications

Technical degree or certificate of completion from an accredited  designer/drafter curriculum or equivalent work experience preferred. Minimum 8 years experience in mechanical and/or architectural systems documentation to include three years experience as a drafter or similar role using computer aided design software. Strong knowledge and skills in AutoCAD and/or Revit applications. Demonstrate an understanding of basis of design.  Demonstrate an understanding of codes. Proven ability to manage multiple projects at once. Demonstrated  experience working independently. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree or advanced technical degree in related field. Five or more years of experience as a designer or project manager to include experience drafting or editing technical document sets in the area of expertise. Experience with BIM, Bluebeam, Sketchup, and other 3D sketch software. Knowledge of specialized standards related to construction in the area of expertise. Experience in higher education design including, but not limited to, laboratories, classrooms, student spaces, housing, food service, athletics and recreation spaces. Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with external clients and co-workers.

Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).
