Senior Capital Markets Specialist

The Senior Capital Markets Specialist is responsible for the development and execution of Northern Trust Asset Management’s FlexShares ETF lineup by blending the firm’s innovation and product development capabilities with their unique skill set and expertise. The primary goal of this role is to develop and grow the FlexShares ETF product line to service Northern’s clients to help achieve their investment goals. The Senior Capital Markets Strategist is a key contributor to the team’s product development efforts, charged with partnering with Investments, Product, Distribution and Marketing to bring products from ideation to launch.

Major Duties:

Responsible for assisting in establishing and fostering relationships with key constituents of the ETF secondary market ecosystem (i.e., market makers, authorized participants and listing venues).Monitor the market making activities of strategic partners to ensure breadth and depth of all liquidity in quoted markets for FlexShares ETFs.Work collaboratively with Investment team to secure seed capital for new products.Work collaboratively with Sales and Marketing to manage relationships with listing venues.Assist with developing trade analytics for proprietary and competitive ETF products in order to support:Sales and servicing professionals in positioning FlexShares ETFs with investing prospects and clients from a capital markets’ perspective.Product Strategy team’s assessment/refinement of existing products an development of new investment strategies.Capital Market and Portfolio Management Team’s  identification and determination of product attributes that affect investors and capital markets participants.The broad ETF group and organization by developing educational forums and collateral for internal use.Marketing and business development professionals by contributing to thought leadership in the form of empirical research and topical communications.Combine a strong understanding of the ETF marketplace with knowledge of investment expertise to develop thoughtful perspectives on where and how Northern Trust is best equipped to compete in the FlexShares ETF landscapeDevelop comprehensive FlexShares ETF competitive analysis capabilities focused on client and industry trends, flows and macroeconomic dynamics to aid in the development and growth of the FlexShares ETF product lineupCollaborate with Product, Investments and Distribution teams to seek insights, develop thought leadership and assist in the positioning and marketing of the FlexShares ETF lineupDevelop positioning points for all funds across the FlexShares ETF product suite focused on both strategic long-term investment goals as well as in the current market environment, highlighting the product lineup’s value propositionLead the ideation process for new FlexShares ETFs, leveraging deep knowledge of the investment landscape and investor preferencesServe as a subject matter expert for the product suite to effectively communicate the differentiation and value-add of the FlexShares lineup to clientsFoster a culture of creativity and innovation within the product development working groups, encouraging fresh ideas and approaches

Knowledge:

Possess the ability to discuss investment concepts and the ability to effectively communicate a product strategy and explain complex technical concepts in simple termsStrong understanding of investments as well as have considerable understanding of portfolio construction techniques and approachesStrong knowledge of various investment strategies and understanding of ETF products using derivativesExhibit strong written and verbal communication skillsHighly organized, detailed-oriented, able to focus on projects “on-demand”Can work effectively with a variety of functional groups across the organization and at varying levels, including Distribution, Investments, Marketing, Compliance and Product Operations

Experience:

A College or University degree and/or relevant work experience is requiredMinimum of 7 years of relevant experience, a strong financial and investment management background and specific ETF product knowledge. CFA designation or advanced degree preferredClient-facing experience across client channels, speaking with advisors, institutional clients, and home offices.

Salary Range:

$158,010 - 268,640 USD

Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
