**Job Description: Senior Reinsurance Casualty Underwriter**
**Location: London**
**Position Overview**
We are seeking an experienced Senior Reinsurance Casualty Underwriter to join our International Casualty team in London with a strong focus on North America. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in global casualty markets and managing complex treaty business. This individual will demonstrate strong underwriting, pricing, and analytical skills, coupled with strategic insight into market cycles and portfolio management.
**The Role: Responsibilities and Duties**
**Underwriting and Technical Responsibilities:**
+ Origination and underwriting of International Casualty Treaty reinsurance business pursuant to company guidelines.
+ Negotiating treaty terms and conditions with international clients and brokers.
+ Drafting and validating wordings, ensuring accuracy of treaty information.
+ Analyzing market cycles and tracking industry trends to inform underwriting strategies.
+ Developing and implementing business plans aligned with long-term growth objectives.
+ Strong understanding of reinsurance structures, financial analysis, and exposure measurement.
+ Managing a diverse portfolio of business, optimizing performance within shifting market cycles.
**Market and Client Management:**
+ Building and maintaining strong broker and client relationships across international and Lloyd’s markets.
+ Assisting in representing the company within the Lloyd’s business planning process in compliance with its processes and regulations.
+ Contributing to the development of market strategies, while monitoring aggregate portfolio commitments.
+ Regular travel to meet clients and brokers, ensuring continued market engagement and business origination.
**Collaboration and Leadership:**
+ Partnering with internal teams (actuarial, claims, and finance) to ensure robust underwriting and portfolio management.
+ Mentoring and supporting junior underwriters, fostering growth and knowledge sharing.
+ Working effectively in a collaborative, dynamic team environment to achieve the teams objectives.
**Competencies Required**
**Technical Skills:**
+ 10+ years of reinsurance underwriting experience, specifically in casualty lines across London and international markets.
+ Proven competence in measuring exposure, applying pricing techniques, and financial/statistical analysis.
+ Strong knowledge of reinsurance structures, including treaty frameworks and bespoke solutions.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft 365 tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
+ High rigor, work ethic, and ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
**Market and Strategic Skills:**
+ Strong business development capabilities with established broker relationships.
+ Demonstrated ability to manage a portfolio strategically within market cycles.
+ Deep understanding of market trends and competitive dynamics, contributing to thought leadership and business strategy.
**Interpersonal and Communication Skills:**
+ Exceptional negotiation skills, with the ability to engage and influence clients and brokers effectively.
+ Clear communication and ability to foster client relationships and cross-functional collaboration.
+ Multilingual capabilities are advantageous, particularly for international markets.
