Senior Civil Engineer

DESCRIPTION 

Michael Baker International is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer with experience working on UFC based projects and specifically working with NAVFAC and other DoD agencies.  The primary focus of the candidate will be to support our growing federal team in the Virginia Beach area on federal civil project delivery, contract and task order pursuits as well as growing a local land development team.  Candidates should be able to act independently, plan, direct, and lead activities of a given project to ensure that the project goals are met on time and on budget.  The candidate should be capable of performing comprehensive design assignments in Civil 3D and supporting software to produce complete plans, specifications, and design calculations for land development style projects. The successful candidate will provide leadership to assigned project staff as well as acting as a federal civil engineering resource for both market and technical staff. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

The ideal candidate would lead and provide day-to-day support and possible management of projects with the oversight of the Michael Baker project / program principal, as well as interact with current and potential clients and regulatory agencies. The candidate should be capable of working in an office environment with the ability to interact remotely across Michael Baker’s enterprise.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Develop and manage projects and proposals to meet client and regulatory needs. Work closely with the clients and regulatory agencies as part of a multi-discipline team. Develop project scope of work documents and project plans that include an analysis of benefit, cost, work schedule, and any related risks. Lead design team in developing project drawings, technical specifications, schedule, and bid tabs. Monitor and communicate project related issues, scope changes variances and contingencies that may arise during the construction of projects. Develop innovative and cost-effective solutions to construction related conflicts and RFIs. Meet with and effectively communicate with project partners, project stakeholders and public to maintain strong relationships. Mentor junior staff. Manage and coach project teams by providing technical advice and assisting in problem solving at an advanced level. Coordinates project activities with government regulatory or other agencies. Occasional travel may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS

A 4-year or advanced degree civil engineering.  Registered Professional Engineer Minimum of five (8) years of professional experience Documented experience in the design and management of federal (UFC based) projects or in delivery of civil engineering design for of federal contracts. Experience with NAVFAC ATLANTIC, NAVFAC Washington or MIDLANT is considered highly desirable.  Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D. Familiarity with permit application development and coordination for federal, state and local agencies.

COMPENSATION 

The approximate compensation range for this position is $93,844 to $147,818.  This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting.  Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
