Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Civil Engineer specializing in roundabouts and roadway design. The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of the planning, design, and construction of roundabouts, with a strong understanding of traffic flow management, safety considerations, and environmental factors. As a Senior Civil Engineer, you will lead and manage projects from conception through to completion, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of diverse roadway design projects.

Duties and Responsibilities

Work as a senior member of our roadway design team under the direction of various Project Managers. Key responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

Lead the design of roundabouts, intersections and roadways for various transportation projects, ensuring compliance with local, state, and national standards (such as WisDOT, AASHTO and MUTCD)Manage all phases of roadway design and roundabout projects, including planning and design.Collaborate with project managers, contractors, and other engineers to ensure timely completion of projects within budget.Coordinate with clients, public agencies, and stakeholders to ensure that designs meet their needs and regulatory requirements.Provide technical leadership to junior engineers and project teams, offering guidance and mentorship in roundabout design and engineering practices. Prepare detailed construction drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3DProduce high quality work and implement and maintain QA/QC procedureOversee the technical aspects of various projectsCoordinate with other disciplines, support services and subconsultantsReview plans, technical specifications, contract documents and estimatesPrepare technical specifications and cost estimatesPerform field reviews and other assessments for use in designParticipate in contract bidding, provide limited observation during construction, review submittals and RFIsRepresent clients and Westwood in meetings with governmental agenciesPrepare, maintain, and coordinate schedules of multiple concurrent projects Develop and track milestones to ensure on-time and on-budget deliveryEnsure division, regional, and company values, policies and practices are consistently followed within the survey serviceLead by example – display solid judgment, good values, trust, honesty, openness, and professionalism Required Skills In-depth knowledge of roundabout design principles, capacity analysis and traffic management strategiesSkilled in the use of local and national design standards (WisDOT, MUTCD, AASHTO, etc.)Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil3D and Microsoft Office applicationsExcellent communication, coordination and leadership skillsStrong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet project deadlinesDetail-oriented with an ability to contribute to a positive work environmentAbility to work independently and as part of a teamAble to proactively pursue design solutionsAbility to delegate assignments and determine methods and proceduresDetail-oriented but also flexible enough to be big picture/conceptualAbility to develop relationships with peers, clients, and public agencies

 

Required Experience BS in Civil Engineering Licensed Professional Civil Engineer (PE) in WI (or capable of obtaining within 6 months)8+ years of progressive experience in roadway design Wisconsin DOT Level 1 or higher Qualified Roundabout Designer certificate About Westwood Professional Services, Inc.
