Senior Civil/Water Resources Engineer

Your Opportunity

Stantec is currently seeking a Senior Engineer to provide technical leadership for our clients and staff on a variety of Power sector projects.  This position will be part of Stantec’s Environmental Services team that provides the full range of expertise needed to address a variety of design projects, including support to public utilities, new electric transmission and rebuild projects, project access road planning and design, civil/environmental substation and battery storage facility design, and solar site/civil/stormwater due diligence and design development. Our staff members have established excellent working relationships with utilities and Power sector developers throughout the mid-Atlantic, and our knowledge and interdisciplinary expertise allow us to help our clients develop the most effective and innovative approaches to their environmental / engineering compliance goals.

Your Key Responsibilities

Serve as Sr. Project Technical Lead for Power Sector engineering projects with responsibility for reviewing and sealing of projects. Work under minimal supervision with broad guidelines, to assign, review, and evaluate the performance of new project orders; directing interdisciplinary project teams as needed to ensure project needs are met. Lead technical teams within an existing and proven client-driven delivery structure for Electric Transmission (new and rebuild) and similar projects. Strong project leadership to help ensure conformance with Stantec’s Project Management Framework (PMF). Ensure strict compliance with contractual requirements. Coordinate with Stantec leadership and client contacts routinely to explore future opportunities, budget planning, and staff resourcing needs. Assist with the development of fee proposals for a variety of sizes and complexities, working with other task managers as needed to address all technical disciplines. Develops and oversee project grading and drainage strategies for successful long-term project operation, maintenance, and compliance. Oversee the design and evaluation of stormwater facilities and strategies. Assist with inspection of BMPs, facilities, and outfalls. Assist with field assessments for water quality studies, watershed walkovers, stream assessments, and other tasks. Support other studies and assessments on dams and lakes, including Dam Break Inundation Zone (DBIZ) modeling, and dam safety permitting. Attend and help moderate daytime and evening public outreach meetings. Conduct peer and quality reviews on all applicable projects.  Other duties or responsibilities as assigned by management.

         

·         Your Capabilities and Credentials

Must have a high attention to detail, strength in time management and organizational skills, and good written and oral communication.  Strong project management credentials, including but not limited to scoping, establishing schedules, project plan development, and routine tracking/reporting throughout project implementation. Proven capabilities/expertise in planning and design of stream restoration and stormwater BMP projects.  Ability to use and troubleshoot hydrology and hydraulics software (e.g. HEC-RAS, SWMM, and/or Pond Pack) and Microsoft Office software. Knowledge of Virginia Stormwater Management Program.  Experience in Virginia MS4 Permit compliance.  Skill in Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, and Project).  Ability to travel within Virginia on a daily basis on short notice. Ability to communicate in a professional and positive manner, both in writing and in person, with clients, employees and the general public. Ability to present to both small and large groups on a wide range of projects.  Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.  Ability to walk 2-4 miles per day in rough terrain and lift up to 50 lbs. Ability to work in a highly automated design office environment.  Must have a good driving record and valid driver’s license.  Prior to employment with Stantec, the candidate may be required to successfully pass drug/alcohol screening. Education and Experience Bachelor of Science (minimum) in Civil, Water Resources, Biological Systems, Environmental Engineering, or other closely related degree required. Masters preferred. Minimum of 10 years prior experience in a similar role required. Preferred: Experience with large project delivery an/or contract management responsibilities. Professional Licensure (P.E.) required. Virginia DEQ Dual Combined Administrator certification preferred.
