Senior Claim Examiner

Purpose: Assist in supervising and coordinating the work activities of the Agribusiness Claim Department and to handle complex and difficult claims. Supports the Claim Department mission of handling claims in a timely, cost efficient manner while adhering to company claim compliance standards.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Investigates complex claims to determine application of coverage, liability, compensability, damages and recovery potential. Reviews claims to ensure quality control functions are being met. Is a resource person for claims and quality control questions and problems for the Claims Department. Assists in training of new and existing staff about claim processing and quality control procedures. Answers questions from agents, adjusters, and division staff about claims/quality control status and procedures. Manages Allocated Loss Adjustment Expense by directing vendors to perform only necessary task-specific assignments. Utilizes available company expense savings programs. Communicates with customers, vendors, medical providers, attorneys, agents and fellow employees. Maintains positive working relationships with Underwriting, Marketing and Claim Support. Settle claims within settlement authority. Performs special projects and other job duties as assigned.

Ability to organize, prioritize and manage claim volume. Ability to analyze issues, recommend solutions and make decisions with limited supervisory guidance. Ability to positively direct the work of others, including the ability to make and communicate work assignments, resolve issues affecting assigned staff members. Ability to train new employees about job tasks and to train current employees about process changes. Ability to comprehend agents’ and adjusters’ questions about claims over the telephone and to provide correct, courteous answers. Ability to articulate thoughts and issues clearly. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks. Ability to work well with people in a team environment. Ability to effectively communicate and maintain business relationships with Company personnel, agents, outside resources, and customers. Ability to learn and use the company terminology, processes and systems. Ability to perform basic and complex mathematical calculations. Ability to remain calm and professional. Ability to work from oral and written communications. Ability to work independently with limited supervision and follow assigned duties through to completion. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to assist in other work-related areas as required.
Job Qualifications
Baccalaureate required and at least 4-6 years of Property Claims experience. Ability to obtain Adjuster license in states requiring licenses.
