Job Summary
The Senior Clinical Applications Specialist is responsible for designing, implementing, supporting and maintaining application and technical integrations to meet the needs of the organization. Consults on complex application and data integration issues. Demonstrates elevated computer operational skills. Should be able to perform difficult application diagnostics and troubleshooting. Must be able to mentor more junior level staff on department procedure and application support and/or implementation procedures. Supports elevated computer system capabilities by studying technical applications and hardware; following support recommendations based on hardware integration availability from vendor and knowledge of enterprise patient care workflows. Ensures the performance, resources, and reliability of hardware and software integrations to meet department needs. May acquire, install, or upgrade computer components and software; provide routine automation; troubleshoot; train and/or supervise staff; or offer technical support for projects for assigned applications. May lead small support project efforts in a Project Manager capacity. Maintains a level of cybersecurity knowledge sufficient to securely accomplish their job duties. Demonstrates mastery of all change control activities.
Responsibilities
1. Uses established procedures and working with minimal supervision performs work that is varied and that may be difficult in character. 2. Solves complex problems using sophisticated analytical thought processes to exercise judgement and identify innovative solutions. 3. Performs business process design, reengineering and documentation for new technology. 4. Interprets internal and external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes, or services. 5. Responsible for directing more junior level employees on task assignment for support and implementation effort. 6. Responsible for writing operational automation scripts and/or programs to minimize manual process. 7. Provides documented support tasks to be able to assist other department members or more junior team members. 8. Responsible for understanding and utilizing vendor’s version control methodology. 9. Responsible for system audit log review providing appropriate response. 10. Must understand end user workflow requirements that are supported by technology. 11. In process or have completed certification/accreditation for specific vendor and/or governing body related to specific applications/tools for which responsible for reporting. 12. Responsible for extracting specified data from supported system(s). 13. Strong time management skills able to mentor junior members of team. 14. Strong technical documentation skills 15. Leads a departmental or institution wide quality effort annually. 16. On call as required 17. Flexible hours when needed 18. All other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Patient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact) The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department’s identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients. Education
• Master's Degree (Required) Education: Master’s degree or advanced certification or equivalent experience. Master’s and advanced certification preferred Experience: 10 plus years of related information technology or clinical technical support experience. Preferred minimum of 8 years’ experience with clinical workflows within the electronic health record or clinical software applications. Cerner experience preferred
