Position Overview:

The Senior Cloud Data Engineer’s role encompasses diverse on-premises and cloud-based data engineering and integration responsibilities. This includes designing, migrating, developing, implementing, and operating cloud-based data solutions that align seamlessly with the company’s data strategy and vision. Key responsibilities also involve leading data engineering projects, optimizing and troubleshooting data pipelines and migration of data workloads to Azure cloud. In addition, the Senior Cloud Data Engineer serves as a subject matter expert in Azure cloud data technologies, actively shaping our data engineering processes and plays a pivotal role ensuring the success of our data engineering initiatives.

Responsibilities

Project Leadership and Execution

Lead data engineering and operation projects: Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and according to best practices, adhering to all company standards, policies, and procedures.Implement and execute data solutions: Collaborate with teams and stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver effective data solutions.Optimize data processing and storage: Focus on performance and cost-effectiveness, leveraging cloud-native services and technologies.

Technical Expertise and Mentorship

Demonstrate expertise in cloud technologies: Particularly in Azure (ADF, ADLS, Synapse, VM, SQL Server, Eventhub, etc.).Provide guidance and mentoring: Offer expertise to other database developers/engineers across teams and projects to promote internal skill development and experience with new technologies.Act as an internal consultant and mentor: Be a technical expert and critical resource, advocating for and mentoring various projects and teams.

Security and Compliance

Work closely with IT Security: Address and respond to security concerns, ensuring cloud environments are managed in accordance with company security guidelines.Understand business processes: Consider the impact on business processes, including production support, when designing database and integration technology solutions.Foster a culture of innovation and excellence: Provide technical leadership to data engineering teams, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and adherence to best practices. Qualifications

Education / Experience

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience with demonstrated ability requiredMinimum eight (8) years of experience with engineering and administration of cloud and on-premises infrastructure technologies, including (IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS), with demonstrated proficiency across multiple current technology disciplines required.Azure Certifications Preferred: Azure Fundamentals, Azure Administrator, Azure Network Engineer, or equivalentExperience in designing and implementing solutions on Azure data lake platformsWorking knowledge of ITIL disciplines preferredWorking knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements (e.g., SOX, FERPA, GLBA, PCI, etc.) as they relate to data integrity and privacy preferred

Technical Expertise and Initiative

Expert knowledge of database technology and concepts: Including server maintenance, procedures, and multiple scripting languages.Strong knowledge of system integration designs and architectures: Working knowledge of virtual server technology and broad knowledge of Windows systems.Expertise in data warehouse and data management concepts: Including data modeling and understanding of Information Technology.

Problem-Solving and Adaptability

Independent problem-solving and decision-making skills: Strong self-sufficiency and initiative in database projects.Ability to provide high-quality work on tight schedules: Excellent at identifying and marshaling resources for action.Understanding of SDLC and project planning/execution: Especially Agile methodologies, including estimating and scheduling.
