Senior Communications Consultant – Health Plan

HealthPartners is currently hiring for a Senior Communications Consultant – Health Plan. The consultant is responsible for leading large communications plan projects with little to no oversight and is viewed as an expert in their area of communications and the part(s) of the business they support. The consultant also functions as a key strategic contributor and planning lead.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Public Relations or related field, or 4+ equivalent years of job-related experience. 5 years of communications, public relations, and/or journalism experience. Proven experience adjusting communication content, style, and approach to meet the needs of diverse partners and audiences. Experience writing various formats of organizational communications such as news releases, emails, memos, blog posts, websites and/or intranet pages, newsletters, talking points, etc. Familiarity and experience with AP style. Broad and specialized experience with a variety of computer programs and technologies that support effective communications teams, including Microsoft suite. Clear, timely and effective communicator who actively listens, asks great questions, and appreciates multiple perspectives. Highly effective written communication and editing skills, such as ability to write concisely and with clarity, remain audience-centered, demonstrate strong spelling and grammar skills, and match the right tone for the message. Demonstrates strong strategic thinking and problem solving. Skilled at building constructive relationships with people both similar and different to self. Skilled at recognizing interpersonal and group dynamics, with previous experience responding to them effectively. Strong presentation and persuasion or influencing skills. Highly effective at seeking out news and information through many sources and knows whether and how there might be story that will connect with a desired audience. Strong understanding of own work and communication styles, with proven experience understanding others,’ including their leader’s styles, and adjusting their approach, accordingly, including how best to keep them informed and provide follow-up. Ability to spot evolving organizational priorities and proactively present ideas and adaptive solutions to their leader. Exceptional attention to detail. Works well within a high-paced environment where good prioritization is required, and deadlines are essential. Skilled at relying on a mixture of analysis, organizational expectations, wisdom, experience, and judgment when making decisions. Takes responsibility for decisions, actions, and failures. Shows personal commitment and acts to continuously improve.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in healthcare, health insurance and highly regulated industries. Experience editing others' writing. Experience working on internal communications and media relations. Experience collaborating with executives, including clinicians and nurses.

Hours/Location:

M-F; Days May work in a hybrid capacity with an onsite need that averages once per week. The consultant will be part of an on-call rotation to support media outreach and/or crisis management.

Responsibilities:

(30%) - Leads and creates large and moderately complex communications plans. (30%) – Writes and edits content for internal and external audiences, including intranet stories, memos, leader talking points, presentations, news releases and social media. Coordinates photos, events, and media pitches. (10%) – Manages relationships and engagement with partners internally and externally. (10%) – Researches, applies insights and data to communications solutions. (10%) – Determines priority of work within a larger body of work aligned with strategy. Tracks and measures against goals and KPIs. Guide projects through ambiguity, solving problems and removing barriers, and making trade off decisions as needed. (10%) – Provide media relations support including occasional “on-call” responsibilities on evenings, weekends, and holidays. Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
