Department Summary:
MITRE's Nuclear Weapon Systems and C2 Platforms Department is seeking a Senior Communications Engineer to provide expertise and support to the most critical challenges our sponsors and their missions face. We provide technical guidance through rigorous modeling, simulation, and analytical methods to enhance program decision making and risk management. Our main sponsors possess the policy, warfighting, organizational, and program responsibilities within the Air Force Nuclear Enterprise.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Provide technical expertise to ensure delivery of safe, reliable, and effective weapon system communications and networking systems.Lead and contribute to technical products that enable data-driven decisions and result in impactful mission outcomes.Identification of program risks and development of mitigation plans to include identification of potential risk reduction activities through prototyping, modeling, simulation and analysis.Requirements derivation and decomposition to support iterative Systems Requirements Review (SRR), System Sub-System Specification (SSS) generation, and lower-level interface specifications as part of the Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase of acquisition.Ability to work across multiple technical domains to include cyber, digital engineering, comms, modeling, mechanical engineering, and airworthiness.Cultivate strong, trusted working relationships with our Air Force sponsors by understanding their needs and helping them solve their toughest problems.Identify and bring to bear specialty engineering disciplines to ensure requirements support successful development, fielding, and sustainment of the weapon system.Clearly and concisely communicate highly technical analyses and recommendations to sponsors and partners in written and verbal productsLead and contribute to technical products that enable data-driven decisions and result in impactful mission outcomes.Basic Qualifications:
Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of communications and networking experience experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field; or 3 years and a Master’s degree, or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experienceExcellent interpersonal and communications skills for interaction with sponsors, project leaders, team members, and other government agencies.Must have the ability to coordinate and collaborate across engineering teams and with representatives from a wide range of government, not-for-profit, and commercial organizations.Wide-ranging knowledge in RF communications (LOS, BLOS, SATCOM), networking, and systems engineering.Knowledgeable in current and evolving DoD and commercial communications systems.Significant experience in writing technical reports.Possess an active DoD Secret clearance with eligibility to obtain a Top Secret clearance.This position has an on-site requirement of 5 days a week on-sitePreferred Qualifications:
Depth in Nuclear Mission areas and Nuclear Command and Control Communications (NC3).Experience and depth in systems engineering.Understanding of how engineers support DoD acquisition.Understanding of DoD’s strategy to own the technical baseline.Knowledgeable in current and evolving DoD and commercial communications systems.Knowledge of command-and-control systems, cyber security, and/or cryptography.Knowledge and experience in network design and network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP).Experience with Systems Tool Kit (STK), SysML, Atoll, HFSS, Feko, or Riverbed ModelerSuccess in leading engineering teams to deliver products and systems on time.Success in leading engineering teams in support of major defense acquisition programs.Knowledge of cyber security and/or cryptography.Expertise across the system development lifecycle from concept development, through requirements definition, system development and integration, and into verification.This requisition requires the candidate to have a minimum of the following clearance(s):
