GovCIO is currently hiring for Senior Communications Specialist to support the Defense Health Agency's Research & Engeineering Directorat. This position is hybrid with 1-2 days/week in Falls Church, VA.

Responsibilities

The Defense Health Agency’s Research and Engineering Directorate (R&E) leads the discovery of innovative medical solutions responsive to the needs of Combatant Commands, the military Services, and the Military Health System by guiding research investments in military health and medicine that lead to solutions for enhancing future warfighter health and readiness.​ The R&E Initiatives Group (REIG) provides specialized advisory and executive support to senior leadership including the development of communication products, strategic engagement planning, and the coordination and management of leadership priorities. The REIG requires an individual who can provide internal and external communications support to R&E senior leadership.  

 

Duties and Responsibilities:Prepare strategic communications such as briefing slides, talking points, and correspondence for Senior Leadership engagements, ensuring messaging supports strategic objectives of the agency and directorate.Draft, edit, and proofread internal leadership communications products such as mass emails, newsletters, or other appropriate communications materials.Provide recommendations to R&E Leadership on communications strategies, trends, commercial and federal practices, tools, templates, standards, optimization methods, distribution and dissemination options, and requirements (such as plain language and accessibility guidelines).Draft communications strategies and plans in support of DHA R&E leadership special initiatives and projects.Stay apprised of and inform R&E leadership on relevant DHA Communications policies (e.g., style, branding, website, and social media policies), strategies, priorities, available platforms, and dissemination options (e.g., GovDelivery).Support media relations activities through coordination with appropriate DHA Communications personnel.Participate in appropriate work groups and meetings to plan R&E leadership communications activities.Coordinate processes of editing and review of written and graphic content and design/layout of products and information intended for public release.Provide graphic design expertise to support R&E internal and external communication products.Establish and maintain R&E website on health.mil, and provide web content management, user experience, and metrics analysis expertise.Manage intranet presence on SharePoint including site layout and content strategy.Manage major conference and symposium communications activities for R&E HQ (e.g. Military Health System Research Symposium (MHSRS) and AMSUS (Association of Military Surgeons of the United States). Qualifications

Mandatory Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree with 8 years of experience
5 years of experience in a DoD or other federal government communications roleFluency with MS Office products Ability to identify sensitive material and manage it appropriatelyExperience leading communications planning and product development in a large, complex organizationExceptional written and oral communication skillsStrong organization and prioritizations skills to manage multiple timelines and competing tasks

 

Desired Qualifications:

Defense Health Agency or Military Health System experienceIntermediate to advanced Adobe InDesign (or similar graphic design software) skillsExperience directly supporting a Flag/General OfficerOrganizational change management communications experience Company Overview

Posted Pay Range

 

The posted pay range, if referenced, reflects the range expected for this position at the commencement of employment, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and internal equity. The total compensation package for this position may also include other compensation elements, to be discussed during the hiring process. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the GovCIO reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, GovCIO or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
