What you’ll be doing
Compliance & Global Regulatory Affairs (Compliance & GRA) assists our Bank in developing and executing a robust and proactive regulatory compliance and regulatory affairs strategy, and effectively managing regulatory risk. The Compliance and EAML Examination Program (CEEP) team, is a group within the Compliance Department, and consists of several multi-skilled examination teams, including the Wealth Compliance Examination team. The team provides independent oversight of compliance with Investment Fund Manager, Portfolio Manager, Investment Dealer and Mutual Fund Dealer laws and regulations applicable to CIBC. The team is also responsible for monitoring, advising and reporting on adherence to regulatory and business requirements, CIBC corporate policies, best practices and acceptable standards of business ethics and conduct.
Reporting to the Director, Wealth Compliance, the Senior Compliance Officer will be responsible for leading complex exams focusing on CIBC’s Asset Management, and Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (“CIRO”) Investment Dealer and Mutual Fund Dealer activities. This includes opining on the design adequacy and operating effectiveness of processes and controls designed to mitigate regulatory and operational risk. Furthermore, you will be responsible for evaluating the design and operating effectiveness of action plans developed by the Lines of Business (LoB) to remediate deficiencies.

How you’ll succeed
Regulatory Oversight: You stay informed of any upcoming changes in the Wealth Management industry, including those affecting Investment Fund Managers, Portfolio Managers, Investment Dealers and Mutual Fund Dealers. This includes, but is not limited to, developments related to the Canadian Securities Administrators’ (“CSA”) National Instruments and CIRO rules and regulations. Furthermore, you act as a subject matter expert responding to questions from the LoBs and team regarding regulations, best practices and internal policies and procedures.Strong Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Effectively communicate and discuss compliance findings with internal partners which include subject matter experts from Compliance, Governance and Controls, Legal, Risk Management, Portfolio Management, Trading, Product Development, Marketing, Regulatory Reporting, and Operations.Lead Examinations: You will lead high quality, thorough and timely execution of Wealth Compliance examinations. You will have a thorough understanding of CIBC Asset Management Inc.’s (“CAMI”) Investment Fund Manager and Portfolio Manager operations and regulatory requirements applicable to their activities. Additionally, you will have a thorough understanding of the operations and regulatory requirements applicable to CIBC’s Investment Dealer and Mutual Fund Dealer activities (i.e. CIBC Wood Gundy, CIBC Imperial Investor Services, CIBC Investor’s Edge, and CIBC Securities Inc.). You will use your well-developed examinations skills to evaluate the effectiveness of processes and controls and identify and recommend areas for improvement.Relationship Building: You will build and maintain positive working relationships with the LoBs, including Wealth , Governance, Legal, Risk, and Compliance partners and help them develop and implement an appropriate regulatory compliance culture including processes and controls that are effective and cost-efficient that help achieve business objectives.Strong Leadership – You provide strong leadership to the team by sharing your knowledge and experiences and helping implement changes to strengthen the Compliance Testing Program. You have completed a relevant undergraduate degree and studying towards relevant professional designations such as CFA, FRM, CIA and want to get a unique exposure to wealth management through the regulatory compliance perspective. You have academic knowledge of wealth management and you are looking to apply it. You have wealth compliance examination or audit experienceIt’s an asset ifIf you have completed the Canadian Securities Course, and Conduct and Practices Handbook Course from the Canadian Securities Institute. You can demonstrate experience in analyzing and understanding regulations, policies and procedures, and apply critical and strategic thinking to address issues and recommend value-added solutions.You embrace and champion change.
