Your Role
As part of our Construction team, you will underwrite new and renewal Construction accounts in line with Chubb guidelines, as well as developing business from an allocated panel of brokers within their delegated authority. We're looking for an experienced underwriter who is highly driven, with excellent relationship management skills to execute on plan and to maximize opportunities with these brokers. You will also impart your knowledge and help develop less experienced team members to further fine tune their underwriting skills. This role can be Sydney or Melbourne based.

Your Responsibilities

Achievement of the Personal premium budget Commercial Underwriting Process / Analysis
- Select new risks and underwrites renewals for assigned book of business and/or for designated speciality classes or market segments
- Organise and presents significant, complex accounts to Branch, Zone or Home Office for approval as applicable
- Split role between development work and managing the existing account (accounts include a mix of multi-national and Australian domestic business and being a kay player on multi-departmental accounts)
- Provide technical leadership for underwriting/marketing in the department or branch including risk referrals and portfolio management; serves as a resource regarding unique coverage needs
- Maintain a high-level understanding of pricing individual risk exposures
- Assist others in the development of pricing strategies, renewal negotiation strategy and developing game plans on new business submissions
- May serve as a higher level of underwriting authority for others in the team.
- Build and maintain long term relationships with key producers and insureds; deals with producer principals on complex underwriting issues.
- Present to prospective producers; may initiate new producer appointments.
- Identify and shares information within the Branch, Zone or National department regarding competitors' products and underwriting.
- Provide expertise on accessing opportunities for growth in a speciality, Customer Group or line of business. Communication
- Delivering product and capability presentations both internally and to Brokers and clients
- Preparing, delivering and negotiating quotations
- Reporting to department manager for growth, profitability, etc of assigned brokers & Accounts. Coaching
- Taking referrals and providing training and guidance to less experienced staff.
 

Your Skills & Experience

5 + years' experience in a Construction or Technical Lines Underwriting and Development role with an insurance companyUnderstand advanced pricing techniques (retro rating, composition of experience mod, etc.), when to use, how to use, how to sell, etc.Understand account servicing costsBe familiar with developing marketing plans and handling complex accounts.Understand the broker selection and appointment processMake recommendations for tailoring coverage and Manu scripting policiesAbility to operate and perform well in a team environment, coordinating with Claims, Loss Control, other SBU’s and CIS/ P&C management is requiredHave experience in the interpretation and analysis of claims and appropriate deployment of loss control resourcesDisplay excellent collaboration, communication and negotiation skills both internally and externallyDemonstrate ability to effectively train entry level underwriters and to orient new experienced hires
