ERM is seeking highly motivated Senior Consultant, Archaeologist to join our global consulting firm as part of our Cultural Resources Services team. This is a hybrid full-time, salary-based position based out of our Scottsdale, AZ office. Applicants are preferred to live in Arizona and possess an understanding of the regional archaeology of the state. Applicants working towards being permitted or who are already permitted on an Arizona Antiquities Act Permit are strongly encouraged to apply. A successful candidate will be able to provide technical assistance during all phases of the project lifecycle and demonstrate strong communication, writing, and critical thinking skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Complete online and in-person record searches in preparation field fieldwork
Walk up to 8 hours each day with a backpack
Lead field crews conducting pedestrian cultural resource inventories
Supervise the recording of artifacts, features, and sites using a tablet and GPS
Follow all field safety procedures and hold morning safety tailgates
Evaluate project impacts to sites
Maintain all field records, hard copy and digital
Contribute to report writing
Assist with managing report production to meet deadlines
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or closely related field of study
3+ years of related professional experience
Demonstrated experience completing inventory, survey, testing, and/or data recovery
Experience contributing to technical reports
Must have strong attention to detail in documentation of work
Excellent communication and computer skills
Ability to work within a team, as well as independently
Knowledge of Arizona Archaeology
Previous experience with mapping equipment and other special application equipment (e.g., tablets and GPS)
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Must be available locally for projects
Ability and willingness to travel to field sites that will be located in and out of state
Must be able to walk long distances (up to ten miles per day) in varying terrain under adverse conditions, including inclement weather, wildlife encounters, and able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., and able to excavate shovel tests and archaeological units, including facing trenches.
Driver's License Required: This position requires a valid driver's license and/or the ability to operate a company vehicle due to the nature of job duties, which include frequent travel to various client locations across a large geographical area.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduate degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or closely related field
Registered Professional Archaeologist
Ability to be listed on Arizona Antiquities Act Permit or working toward it
Strong oral and written communication skills
Detail oriented; resourceful
Positive and energetic attitude
Self-motivated; strong initiative
