About the Opportunity
Amentum are looking to recruit a Senior Consultant at our Birchwood laboratory facilities who has knowledge and experience of mechanical testing and the mindset to develop new test methods/programmes. Our customers come from a wide range of industries, predominantly from the nuclear and conventional power generation sectors, but also aerospace and automotive.
In MSSI, we are developing advanced mechanical testing methods to generate data that ultimately inform advanced structural integrity assessment methods. These methods are required to support the safe operation of high integrity components, in highly regulated industries. Achieving our objectives requires the support of motivated and competent engineers and scientists. This role will provide the opportunity to give technical oversight of the development of novel mechanical testing facilities and ultimately, the individual in this role will be expected to manage the development and subsequent use these facilities to produce important test data.
Responsibilities\:
Managing a R&D programme – from conception and experimental design through to delivery of verified test results and reports Undertake a range of technical activities including but not limited to the operation of complex mechanical testing equipment. At least 5 years working in a similar highly regulated industry e.g. Aerospace, nuclear, oil/gas. A degree in a materials science and/or engineering, mechanical engineering, or physical sciences and a chartered member or working towards chartership of a relevant institution. Experience with an appreciation of mechanical design principals An appreciation of hydraulic and pressure systems design and operation an advantage. Working knowledge of mechanical testing and/or structural integrity assessment methods with a drive to learn more about both. In particular, experience in fatigue would be an advantage. Appreciation of materials science and materials characterisation techniques. Good appreciation of quality control systems adopted in mechanical testing laboratories. Experienced with the analysis and presentation of scientific data - familiarity with programming languages typically used in scientific analysis (for example, python) would be beneficial. A flexible approach to working and a willingness to be multi-disciplinary
