This job contributes to Starbucks success by monitoring, managing, and optimizing the automated systems within our distribution center, including conveyors, sorters, robotics, and storage solutions. This role involves real-time system oversight, troubleshooting, and coordination with various departments to resolve issues that may impact facility operations. This role is a critical part in ensuring system efficiency, minimizing downtime, and supporting operational teams while maintaining a strong focus on safety and continuous improvement.

 

As a senior control room operator, you will…

System Monitoring and Control:

Monitor automated systems, including conveyors, sorters, robotics, and storage solutions, using control room software and hardware interfaces. Identify and promptly address alarms, faults, and system interruptions to minimize downtime. Conduct regular system health checks and maintain accurate records of system performance metrics.

Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution:

Diagnose and resolve technical issues with automated equipment in collaboration with maintenance and engineering teams. Escalate critical issues to appropriate personnel, including vendors or manufacturers, as needed. Log and track all system issues using the company’s incident management system.

Coordination and Communication:

Serve as the central point of contact for operations teams, providing timely updates on system status and any operational impacts. Coordinate with floor staff to ensure smooth material flow and resolve bottlenecks efficiently. Work closely with IT and engineering teams to address software and hardware updates or repairs.

Safety and Compliance:

Monitor system performance to ensure compliance with established safety and operational standards. Follow protocols for system shutdowns, restarts, and maintenance activities. Demonstrates and understands safety as a core value and follows the key essentials to safety as set forth by our safety resolution; reinforces and coaches others to do the same. Understands and follows established safety guidelines, consistently complies with all safety procedures (e.g. PPE, Lock Out Tag Out). Maintains product quality through adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices, Food Safety Preventative Controls, product specifications and quality procedures. Monitors and documents quality measures using analytical tools.

Continuous Improvement:

Provide input on potential enhancements to improve system performance, efficiency, and reliability. Attend training sessions to stay updated on system changes and best practices. Assist in developing and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs) for control room operations.

We’d love to hear from people with:

Education (minimum education level, degree or certification necessary): High school diploma / GED, US military service or equivalent Skills (minimum skills required): Experience in system monitoring, automation, or a control room environment preferred. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail. Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including operations, maintenance, IT, and engineering. Proficient with control room software, hardware interfaces, and incident management systems. Excellent communication and coordination abilities, with the ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks. Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills. A mindset for continuous improvement and a proactive approach to addressing challenges in a fast-paced environment. Years of experience in specific field or utilizing designated skills (minimum needed to be qualified): Two (2) years’ experience in an automated distribution center, manufacturing environment, or related field.

*If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above.  For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.

 

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity.  At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
