Senior Controls and Robotics Engineer
Job Description

Work Arrangement

Onsite:  This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Warren Tech Center on a full-time basis. 

The Role

We are excited to announce that we are actively seeking talented individuals for two distinct and dynamic roles associated with this posting: a Senior Controls Engineer and a Senior Robotics Engineer.  Join us in shaping the future of automotive technology!

These senior engineering positions will include the design, build, and troubleshooting of electrical control or robotic systems for machinery and equipment that manufacture best-in-class and tech-forward vehicles.

As a Senior Controls or Robotics Engineer, you will be applying your technical expertise to deliver exceptional vehicles that inspire customer loyalty.  You will help implement standards and procedures as you work alongside with automation system suppliers to coordinate machine modification needs with engineering and maintenance. 

Other typical duties include developing, debugging, and troubleshooting control logic programs or robot programs along with other related functions at either the supplier or plant site.

What You’ll Do

Lead the procurement and launch of new and major programs focused on controls and robotics

Maintain strong working relationships with vendors, GM IT, and other internal engineering disciplines, as well as management at both plant and headquarters

Diagnose and resolve deficiencies in manufacturing processes

Stay informed about advancements in controls technology, including robotics, computer graphics, and computer controls (CNC, PLC, PC, HMI, networks)

Drive the implementation of new technologies to mitigate risks

Evaluate and assess manufacturing processes and equipment for efficiency and effectiveness

Lead simultaneous engineering activities in collaboration with Manufacturing Engineering (ME) and equipment supplier representatives from a controls and robotics perspective

Oversee the development of error-proofing plans in partnership with ME

Participate in safety and risk assessment activities with cross-functional teams

Lead the approval process for control drawings and conduct control run-offs at OEM sites

Address and assist with operational problems as needed

Actively support and engage with manufacturing operations groups

Additional Job Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience or training

Extensive controls experience in a manufacturing environment (Controls Engineer)

Proficient in PLC programming, including ladder logic and schematics (Controls Engineer)

Skilled with Siemens, Allen-Bradley, and/or Rockwell automation systems (Controls Engineer)

Expertise in robot programming and integration within a manufacturing setting (Robot Engineer)

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications) 

5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment

5+ years of hands-on PLC work experience (Controls Engineer)

4+ years Fanuc robot setup, programming, and troubleshooting (Robot Engineer)

A degree or training in Mechatronics
