Senior Controls Engineer

Job Description:

General Summary:

The Senior Project Engineer - Process Controls shall be responsible for engineering and coordination of process systems, including dry material transport, liquid mixing and delivery, level control, pressure & temperature control, etc., and equipment set projects which includes electrical installation of various machines for manufacturing. Must be able to work independently to prepare and manage the development of all systems integration and controls related project deliverables. This person will also mentor and direct other engineers, engage in process systems and will be responsible for control system related engineering calculations, systems integration, control system concepts, design development and implementation.

Essential Job Functions:

Understand mechanical systems and manufacturing processes for which control systems will be designed.  Coordinate and update mechanical designs where necessary for controls considerations.  Design of controls systems including hardware design, PLC communication networks, power distribution, and selection of field devices for a variety of manufacturing processes. This would be electric battery, electric vehicle, and industrial manufacturing industries (process engineering). Understand and be familiar with National Electric Code, Local Electrical and Safety Codes & Standards and Client Codes.Participate with project team and client to prepare or edit customer specifications and project scope of work.Generate operation concepts and requirements, flow diagrams and P&ID’s, system flows and sequence of operations.Specify and design control systems, including control panel design, PLC networks & I/O, motor controls, system layouts, etc.Specify and design power distribution systems, including power distribution panels, bus ducts, receptacle panels, voltage drop calculations, etc. This would also include loading of bus ducts, PDP’s in relationship to demand/diversity factors. Develop controls schematic design including field devices, selection of field devices, and field interconnect diagrams.Provide engineering estimates for control systems and related installation work.Track project status and schedule, providing updates to Project Managers including action item lists and meeting minutes.Review and approve contractor engineering submittals and drawings.Review and approve fabrication facilities and production equipment prior to shipment to site.Manage system start-up, debug and testing, and provide system review and punch-listing.Review and approve system as-built/as-installed drawings.May be required to travel to client’s sites to perform field site visits to inspect existing equipment, systems and facilities.

Employment Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

Prefer Bachelor Degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited university.Prefer 8 to 10 years of related work experience.

Skills/Competencies:

Must be proficient in 3D CAD/modeling, Revit proficiency is a plus. Previous experience with PLC’s (Allen Bradley ControlLogix family, Siemens), networks (Profibus, Ethernet, DeviceNet, etc.) and related software a plus.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
