Senior Corrosion Specialist

We are seeking a Senior Corrosion Specialist to helpsupport Carollo in corrosion control mitigation efforts. This is a remote role, but qualified candidate must be located near a Carollo office. Engineering projects including any of the three primary corrosion disciplines: cathodic protection (CP), internal corrosion (water treatment), and/or protective coatings and linings + Assists with contract related activities including design, field inspection, contract administration, scheduling, and forecasting + Leads projects as well as performs contract administration related activities + Leads and coordinates teams of NACE trained junior CP or CIP staff in coatings inspections and/or CP field testing + Reviews detailed designs for corrosion prevention systems, cost estimates and bid documents + Assists in the evaluation of bids and the selection of contractors + Serves as project manager for corrosion-related capital improvement projects + Responsible for engineering service and support in the planning, construction, operation, maintenance, and analysis of corrosion control + Develops solutions to technical problems involving unconventional or advanced problem solving techniques that may not have been previously encountered + Prepares complex engineering plans, designs, specifications, standards, evaluations and studies utilizing specialized analytical skills + Involved in exploration of subject area, definition of scope and selection of problems for investigation + Responsible for acting independently and making authoritative decisions on technical matters + Demonstrates sound knowledge of Association of Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP) best industry practices + Conducts and assists in field tests/inspections, measurements, filing of reports, and record keeping + Writes, modifies, and generates project specific specifications + Provides guidance in materials selection, including but not limited to: stainless steels, composites, etc. + Provides guidance in corrosivity analysis and provides recommendations for appropriate corrosion mitigation strategies + Implements and manages communication, projects, and program meetings + Travel may be required (average of 25%) Additional Responsibilities for Candidates applying under Cathodic Protection Discipline: + Performs advanced CP design in both impressed current and galvanic systems, covering water/wastewater assets, such as: tanks, pipelines, long linear pipelines, concrete structures, fittings, wells, etc. + Responsible for technical oversight and review of pipeline design work for cathodic protection impacts + Oversees junior CP engineers with small-scale CP designs + Peer review of all phases of CP design + Performs/oversees CP surveys including pipe-to-soil, close interval survey, current requirement testing, current mapping, electrical continuity testing, and other miscellaneous CP surveying + Utilizes GIS field data collection tools to capture CP data + Researches records and compiles information to ensure accuracy of GIS systems for Corrosion field assets Additional Responsibilities for Candidates applying under Coatings Discipline: + Oversees coating specifications and recommendations for all phases of project + Provides recommednations for coatings in all environmental conditions + Forensic evaluation and testing of coating systems and metals – methods including non-destructive tests (e.g., holiday coating tests, electromagnetic and ultrasonic pipeline condition tests, XRF composition analyzers for alloys) and destructive tests + Oversees junior coatings engineers in project specifications, training, and inspection work + Inspects or oversees protective coatings and lining installation including surface preparation, product application, and quality control testing + Able to perform and oversee tests for surface profile, wet and dry film thickness, adhesion, holiday, hardness, and other general coatings testing Additional Responsibilities for Candidates applying under Internal Corrosion Discipline + Manages and mitigates corrosion that occurs inside pipelines and other equipment that transport or store water/wastewater + Set up systems to regularly monitor the interior of pipelines using techniques like coupon monitoring, ultrasonic testing, or inline inspection tools to assess corrosion rates and locations + Recommends and optimizes the use of corrosion inhibitors, biocides, and other chemicals to minimize corrosion + Investigates corrosion-related failures or leaks to understand the root cause and determine if issues stem from material defects, environmental conditions, or chemical interactions + Analyze samples and examine the corrosion mechanisms (e.g., pitting, microbial-induced corrosion, etc.) at play. + Works closely with coatings and materials engineers to select pipe materials, linings, and coatings that resist corrosion under expected service conditions + Uses predictive modeling to anticipate future corrosion issues and recommend proactive measures + Oversees field personnel and junior corrosion engineers in internal corrosion related work + Works with water quality based research or field trial efforts to mitigate internal corrosion + Uses various indices to analyze and evaluate various corrosion risk: Larsons, Wallastonite, Langelier Saturation, and others **Qualifications** + Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering or related field + 8+ years directly related professional experience + Corrosion control experience (either in Coatings, Cathodic Protection, or Internal Corrosion) + NACE or SSPC Certification, or equivalent + Demonstrated experience in the design and construction phase of small, medium, and large-sized water and/or wastewater infrastructure projects + Application of engineering principles including critical thinking, analysis, and innovative techniques + Ability to communicate effectively with clients and project team + Creative, foresight and mature engineering judgment in anticipating and solving unprecedented engineering problems + Ability to deliver high quality services within budget and schedule constraints + Knowledge of Industry standards pertaining to corrosion control + Must demonstrate high level project/design work for discipline of specialty: Cathodic protection, coatings, internal corrosion **Preferred Qualifications** + Master's degree in Engineering or related field + Senior level certifications (NACE CP3/4, or NACE CIP 2/3, or SSPC PCS, or Senior Corrosion Specialist, or Internal Corrosion Specialist) + Water/Wastewater Industry Experience **Pay Range** $135,000 to $180,000 annually. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future.
