Senior Cost Accountant
Job Title: Senior Cost AccountantJob Description Under minimum supervision, this position includes the daily management of new and existing financial systems, developing new financial systems, as well as the maintenance, monitoring, and enhancing of existing systems. This position will evaluate the adequacy of and implement improvements to those systems in accordance with FASB, IRS, and SEC regulations. Such systems may include General Accounting and Cost Accounting. Responsibilities + Develop, maintain, and monitor financial systems to ensure integrity in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and company accounting procedures. + Utilize expertise to interpret various external requirements and practices and determine their applicability to the business. + Analyze problems and implement solutions to ensure consistency and accuracy of the financial systems. Represent the department or company with internal and external customers to resolve non-routine issues. + Ensure inventories are properly valued according to generally accepted accounting principles and assets are safeguarded. + Provide training on transactions and procedures to internal customers as required. + Compute and analyze manufacturing variances and review with manufacturing personnel, providing timely and meaningful cost accounting information and analysis. + Evaluate the adequacy of existing procedures related to inventory and production, track weaknesses, and implement improvements. + Develop and maintain master data for standard costs of assigned product lines and monitor actual performance against these standards. Execute annual cost roll. + Work cross-functionally with business partners to prepare full profit and loss plans for assigned product lines and develop cost estimates for new products. + Analyze General Ledger or sub-system output for consistency and accuracy and resolve questionable items. + Analyze and summarize accounting data to make comparisons to similar data for other periods and prepare explanatory comments. + Assist department managers with their budgets. + Develop reporting capabilities and understanding of multiple systems applications within the company environment. + Assist with the month-end close process for the factory, including reviewing for completeness and running month-end jobs in SAP (Assessments, Rate Calc, WIP, Settlement). + Explain month-end variances and create reports for upper management. + Handle the forecasting process, understanding upcoming deviations from the plan. Essential Skills + 4+ years of cost accounting experience + Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field + Advanced Microsoft Excel experience (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPS, spreadsheet manipulation) + Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis + Inventory evaluations + Journal entry creation and submission + Large ERP experience Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience with SAP (S4Hana transition next year) + Public accounting experience + Previous Power BI experience Work Environment This is a fully onsite position at the plant. You will be working closely with the Operations Team and the team on the floor. You will have your own cubicle at the plant where you can focus on your work. There is one other Cost Accountant onsite with whom you will collaborate. The plant has grown significantly, necessitating the addition of this new role to manage the increased workload.
