This is a full-time position based in the Bay Area, with hybrid office work (currently 3 days a week).
Primary Responsibilities:
In this role, you will primarily work with eBay’s Payments Product and Financial Services teams, providing legal support on the roll out of new features and functionality, categories and products with an eye towards global scalability. You will develop and deliver the legal strategy for key areas of our user checkout experience with the ability to translate primarily European and US financial regulations into clear requirements for product and engineering teams. You will enable our clients to provide a delightful customer checkout experience, embracing the appropriate level of smart risk. You will work closely with our Payments Regulatory and Commercial team in our broader legal department to provide business-focused, end-to-end legal support and solutions to business and technology leaders.
You will also interact regularly with functional groups within the Company on both transactional work and policy review, including Anti-Money Laundering/Sanctions Compliance, Finance, Accounting, Corporate Development, Marketing, Tax, Internal Audit, Information Security, Privacy, Trust, Government Relations and Risk.
Job Requirements:
6+ years of post-qualification experience, preferably in the fintech space, including in-house experience with payments matters in the context of internet or technology companies and/or relevant law firm work
Practical product counseling experience strongly desired
Experience in the following areas desired:
Regulatory Consumer financial protection
US state and federal money transmission laws and EU Payment Service Directives
Commercial and consumer lending and alternative financing
Card network rules
Privacy/data protection
Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning
Experience in the following areas is also strongly preferred: commercial and consumer lending, loan brokering, alternative forms of financing (e.g., receivables-based financing), and card network rules
Technical understanding of the payments and financial ecosystem, especially as relevant to marketplaces
Ability to build positive relationships quickly and interact with junior to senior business leaders with ease.
Consistent record of providing strong legal analysis, but also practical business recommendations.
Strong curiosity about alternative payments, emerging payments technology, and the fintech industry
Can manage and deliver across a number of top-priority projects
Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Flexible and agile problem solver, with the ability to tolerate ambiguity in a fast-paced environment
Ability to cherish innovation, be a change maker, and believe that there is always room for improvement
Flexibility with the scope and variety of projects to be undertaken
Thrives in fast-paced work environment where change is happening every day
Good sense of humor and team spirit
JD from an ABA accredited law school

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment in California, Washington, or New York is expected in the range below.
$144,000 - $216,150Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
