Senior Counsel – Food Safety and Quality Regulatory (Washington, DC)

Position Summary:
Reporting to ADM’s Chief Counsel for Litigation and Regulatory Law and working closely with ADM’s Segment Chief Counsels and ADM’s Regulatory and Scientific Affairs department, the Senior Counsel – Food Safety and Quality Regulatory will be responsible for providing legal guidance and support on all matters related to food safety, quality assurance and related regulatory compliance. This role involves working closely with internal stakeholders to navigate complex regulatory environments, manage legal and compliance issues, and mitigate risks associated with food safety and quality assurance.
Job Responsibilities:Regulatory Compliance: Advise on compliance with local and national food safety and quality regulations, including those promulgated by FDA, USDA, and other relevant agencies. Strategically partner within the organization to help ensure company practices meet all regulatory requirements.Legal Guidance: Provide legal advice on matters related to food safety and quality, including manufacturing, product labeling, claims, recalls, and marketing practices. Review contracts, policies and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance.Risk Management: Identify potential legal risks and collaborate internally to develop strategies to manage them, including by aligning with global colleagues on best practices. Training and Development: Develop and deliver training programs for ADM colleagues on regulatory requirements, food safety protocols, and best practices in quality assurance.Issue Resolution: Represent ADM, including through outside counsel, in interactions with regulatory agencies and in related legal proceedings, regulatory inquiries and disputes related to food safety and quality issues. Advise on food safety and quality recalls, including engagement with agencies, customers and other stakeholders.Policy Development: Support cross-functional teams to develop and implement food safety program enhancements, policies and procedures that align with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.Horizon Scanning: Monitor changes in food safety and quality regulations, industry trends, and best practices to provide advice geared towards ensuring the company remains compliant with evolving standards. Job Requirements:Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and admission to practice in Washington, DC or Illinois (or ability to be licensed in those jurisdictions).Minimum of 5-7 years of experience practicing law with a focus on food safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. Experience in an in-house or in-agency legal role is strongly preferred. Strong understanding of food safety and quality regulations.
