Senior Counsel

Marsh McLennan’s Legal, Compliance and Public Affairs (LCPA) department promotes a culture in which ethical, lawful, and risk mindful behavior is encouraged and reinforced. We are looking for a commercially oriented in-house counsel to support the litigation legal needs of its Marsh McLennan Agency businesses. The position will report to the Chief Litigation Counsel for Marsh McLennan Agency (“MMA”) who is located at the Company’s headquarters in New York.  The position will be based in New York City. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.

Senior Counsel – Litigation

We will count on you to:

Handle subpoena response and provide advice on E&O circumstances and claims, as well as supervise outside counsel on active litigations, including collaborating with counsel and business leaders on developing strategy

Manage relationships with outside counsel

Provide advice and support on a wide range of legal issues and projects supporting business colleagues and LCPA’s risk mitigation efforts

Contribute to and reinforce the LCPA Strategic Plan and initiatives that impact the LCPA organization

What you need to have:

A minimum of 4 years of working experience in a law firm and/or in-house corporate legal department.

Familiarity with the insurance industry, insurance regulations or insurance coverage litigation.

Admitted to the bar in New York.

Excellent judgment, excellent communication, project management skills, and a willingness and ability to work as a part of a team.

Ability to effectively communicate with business colleagues and exercise sound legal and commercial judgment in providing advice and determining when to escalate issues

Keen attention to detail, excellent analytical ability, and discretion with confidential information.

Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines, to handle multiple priorities, to prioritize assignments and to work efficiently.

Marsh McLennan is committed to hybrid work, which includes the flexibility of working remotely and the collaboration, connections and professional development benefits of working together in the office. All Marsh McLennan colleagues are expected to be in their local office or working onsite with clients at least three days per week. Office-based teams will identify at least one “anchor day” per week on which their full team will be together in person.

The applicable base salary range for this role is $129,400 to $258,800.

The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
