Senior Counsel - Regulatory & EHSS
Job Title: Senior Counsel - Regulatory & EHSS Summary:This highly visible and challenging position is responsible for providing legal support on a broad range of environmental, health and safety (EHS), sustainability and product stewardship matters. Responsibilities include regulatory requirements for waste management, release reporting, water & air pollution control, environmental remediation, occupational health and safety, transportation, environmental litigation, chemical regulation, and hazard communications. The position will work closely with executives and staff within the EHS, Manufacturing, Quality, and Product Stewardship organizations as well as the business units to provide guidance on regulatory matters. With a global scope, this role works with the global legal team on strategic initiatives and issues of global significance while also focusing on US domestic and international environmental and chemical regulatory legal matters. Other areas of focus include transactional due diligence (including corporate mergers and acquisitions), tolling agreements, EHS audits and compliance assurance, compliance training for leaders, and government agency relations. This position may also provide support for legislative advocacy/government affairs and global trade compliance. Responsibilities Include: + Drive the continuous development of the legal function’s relationship as a key business partner to regional management, business and functional teams to help ensure that the businesses act and operate within the law and Company policy. + Provide advice and support to on legal and regulatory issues relating to multiple areas, including EH&S, Operations, Product Stewardship, Corporate Sustainability, Quality and Business Development. + Understand and communicate general legal requirements impacting the Company and the chemical industry, applicable laws, and advise on implementing practical solutions. Advise Company and functions on complex legal regulatory questions and risk management in regulated applications including medical devices, cosmetics, and food contact materials. + Assist in the development of policies and procedures associated with compliance and best practices, including process improvements, legal guidance documents and training materials. + Provide legal advice on a wide variety of commercial transactions, including contracts with consultants and suppliers, quality agreements with customers. Collaborate with EHS in implementation of EHS audits, Responsible Care® programs, sustainability initiatives, ISO certification process and similar activities. + Collaborate with business leaders on major projects, such as development of new Company facilities and acquisitions or divestitures, including permitting, due diligence and environmental assessments. + Assist in assessing the impacts on Company operations of relevant legislative and regulatory developments and in evaluating potential advocacy strategies. + Engage and oversee outside counsel as needed, with the objective of optimizing the internal and external legal spend considering the magnitude of risk and consequences. + Support the General Counsel on other matters as requested Travel: + Less than 25% Qualifications: The following are required for the role + Admitted to a state bar and currently in good standing in all admitted jurisdictions + Substantial experience with multinational law firms and/or multinational corporations, preferably with practice supporting a broad range of regulatory matters. + Sound business judgment and flexibility to cover a broad range of regulatory matters. + Lead and work closely with multi-stakeholder teams to develop and implement practical solutions to complex issues. + Ability to quickly learn and understand complex issues involving chemical manufacturing processes and operations and legal requirements applicable to the registration, manufacture, sale, and use of chemical products. + Expertise with U.S. EHS and/or chemical control laws and regulations. (e.g., Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, RCRA, and TSCA, especially Sections 5 and 8). + Previous experience counseling clients regarding environmental remediation requirements such as Superfund and analogous U.S. state programs. + Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communications skills. + Ability to work both independently and as part of a team and manage conflicting deadlines. What We Offer:Base Pay Range: $158,500 - $232,100 The actua l salary offered i s determined by factors including but not limited to education, experience, skill set s, and geography. Local geographic pay differentials may not be reflected in the above pay range and will be discussed with you by a member of the HR team when applicable .
